From a member.... This is an article I saw from Wind Energy is Absurd! Its from a piece by a Norwegian Gentleman, Ingve Flikka, as you will see when you read the piece. It totally sums up my fears, worries and yes, my anger about the way genuine people living not only here in Galloway are bring treated by politicians snd foreign megalomaniacs, but also those in the Highlands and the Shetlands too! As Invve requests, share, particularly to MP’s, Local Authorities and Community Councils. Thanks
Every so often we come across something which is so poignant that it has to be shared, and this one has already been shared by 1.8K people..
It's a post from June by Ingve Flikka, an outdoorsman living in Flekkefjord, Norway. Rather than share directly from the Norwegian text, we asked Mary to contact Ingve and she has done what she hopes is a better translation than the auto one and has been in contact with Ingve to check out a couple of things.
Ingve has summarised here exactly what is so wrong with wind turbines being speared into any community; in Norway, where it can't be argued that there is a need, the prospect is an environmental travesty.
At the bottom of the page we've put up again, for anyone who missed it on the other occasions, a link to the petition which contains the following very true sentence:
'Why would we ruin nature to build wind farms? Isn’t nature what we are trying to protect and save? '
--------------------
"Dad, close the window; the forest is noisy"...
I can no longer relax; I know I am in turmoil and am anxious. I am not only worried about Flekkefjord and the pending plans for Skorveheia and the huge plans for wind turbines there, but for the entire Norwegian people.
What sits like nails are the words of a worried father who has had wind turbines installed close to his home. We know that wind turbines rattle, not only the blades swishing, but also the infrasound which affects us in the spinal cord from many kilometres away and which we cannot hear; both are sounds that are detrimental to health.
In the countryside in quiet surroundings, the girl cannot sleep; she asks her father to close the window facing the forest. They have got wind turbines in their immediate area, and she asks dad to close the window because the forest is roaring. I get hurt when I hear that.
We see a rebellion we have rarely seen before; we see people crying, and municipalities feeling powerless. We see builders who take out hundreds of millions in dividends after selling their rights to foreign investors, who then forget all the praise and fine speeches.
They call it “green energy”, but they should have used “execution of the Norwegian fauna”, that’s what this is all about. It is impossible to present all the documentation in one small post, but that we need these wind turbines is completely wrong. So we spend many billions to sponsor foreign investors and some developers, and this is me and you who have to pay.
If we had spent all this money on subsidising energy-saving measures in industry and domestically, we could have reduced consumption tremendously. Had we also had a tax on hydropower as they now have on windpower, we would have been able to develop very many hydropower plants with minimal intervention. If we had spent some of the money on subsidising the upgrading of old hydropower stations and equipment from the 1960s, we would have been able to collect as much power as the future wind turbines are intended to provide.
It is not only that I use nature so intensely myself, but I see so many innocent people everywhere who are affected by the big plans for gigantic wind turbine developments that are getting bigger and bigger. The plans for the major developments on Skorveheia in Flekkefjord are just one of many. I must emphasise that I have a great understanding that some landowners will take advantage of their opportunity to make some money, but even they must understand that even if you own the land, it is not a given that you also own the air 250 metres above the ground you own. It must therefore be understood that this causes great unease in many, even in those living many miles away; tens of thousands of innocents will be required to see intense flashes and large movements before sunset all year round.
Many small and larger settlements will be severely affected, and there is little doubt that this will create major divisions and wounds in small communities. "Random" landowners are offered huge financial compensation, while neighbours will have their quality of life greatly reduced, and their properties will diminish enormously in value when giant turbines rise close by.
I talked to an older guy in Flekkefjord, he had now seen the upcoming plans for Skorveheia; he hoped he was so old he didn't have to experience this, but his descendants were hurting, and he was sure no one in his own family would take over the family place if the wind turbines in Flekkefjord became a reality. He talked about how for generations they had raised stones for the various varde (cairns), varde which they now want to replace with monster turbines up to 250 meters in height. It hurts to see an elderly man being moved when he talks about this, when he prays to God that this is stopped; I hope he has good contacts.
I have carefully read both concessions, landowner agreements, additional agreements, surveys and studies. What is certain, and that even the Minister of State failed to account for recently, is that we have no guarantees that these giant turbines will be removed when the money runs out and the turbines are worn out after 15-20 years. Plans are to be submitted and landowners are promised that they will not cost them anything. What we see in other countries is that when the commercial companies unfortunately run out of money when the income goes, towards the end, then there is no big wallet to remove these installations and the bill will soon fall to the landowners and the municipality.
We take, as I see it, some huge risks, and even Norwegian-owned wind power companies have in their accounts only plans for the wreckage price of the turbines (steel price) to cover this, this we know is enough for a small fraction of the total expenditure.
The photo is from the small village of Kvanvik in Flekkefjord and is just one of many which illustrate upcoming views to innocent people about these turbines which would arrive. The second picture is from the same area as the turbines are planned, from a night when the dog and I lay in a tent to enjoy the complete silence, interrupted only by the blackcock playing and the deer roaring
We really do not need to spend our money on sponsoring German and Swiss investors who do not want more wind turbines in their own country. We really do not have to sacrifice Norwegian nature for something we do not need at all.
Our elected politicians must now remember what their task consists of. Their task is not to make decisions AGAINST us, but to decide FOR us. We say NO to onshore wind power in pristine Norwegian nature, both for ourselves, nature, wildlife and for our future generations (please share, and thank you for reading)
