A few bits I've knapped this morning 🌞

30/05/2026

Saturday morning at Vanlife Festival 2026. Before the gates open I managed to have a bit of a wander, there's some great activities happening around the site.

Today is day three for us here, thankfully the new portable power station plugged into the solar panel has been able to keep the fridge going for most of the time. We've had a few hours where we're run out of power in the night but it soon kicks back in when the sun comes up. 😎

After a 4am start we're in Shrewsbury & all setup. Joey having a well deserved sit down!

We're looking for people who want to run their own bushcraft business but with the support of a national group. We have successfully been running since 2018 and already have a number of practitioners nationwide. Drop me a message if you fancy a chat!

Alison & Sarah have headed off to schools this week, running a range of sessions over the next few months. James is joining the action in July to run the "Personal Development Week" for a school in Plymouth.

Next week you'll find us in Birmingham at Vanlife Festival, so all systems go!

Another session of flint knapping for Cornwall Heritage Trust today. We had a fantastic turn-out and everyone did brilliantly well (I think everyone left with something resembling an arrowhead)!

I didn’t take many photos as usual, so there's a couple of me having a coffee in the van before everyone arrived and a pony I helped put in his bed during a detour on the way home 😂

🔥 Don't let the Devon drizzle dampen your fire! 🔥

We all know the West Country weather can be... unpredictable. But a true bushcrafter knows that rain doesn't mean you can't have a warm hearth. 🌧️

Here are 3 pro-tips for wet weather fire-lighting:

1️⃣ Look Up, Not Down: The driest wood is often found hanging in the lower dead branches of standing trees (especially conifers), not on the damp ground.

2️⃣ Fatwood is Your Friend: Keep an eye out for old pine stumps. That resinous "fatwood" is nature's waterproof firelighter!

3️⃣ The 'Upside-Down' Fire: Build your fire on a platform of green logs to keep it off the wet earth, and build the fire largest-to-smallest to protect the initial embers.
