It’s Volunteer Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and compassion to support our vital work. From animal care, wildlife rescue, veterinary and fostering to fundraising, food bank support, grooming and charity shops, we have over 200 fantastic volunteers at the heart of everything we do.💙

To kick things off, we sat down with our wildlife supervisor Siobhan to find out more about her role at the charity, the work our incredible wildlife volunteers carry out each day and how you can get involved with helping us continue to provide our wildlife rescue service both within our centre and throughout NI.🦆🐇🦉

To find out more about volunteering, check out the 🔗 in our bio/comments or reach out to our volunteer coordinator Jill at [email protected] or call 028 3025 1000.

Making a difference for wildlife together!

This little fox cub was brought in our care after he was sadly discovered by a member of the public wandering down a main road in Belfast, all by himself and crying out.

After being transferred down to our centre, he was checked over by our wildlife and veterinary teams to ensure he wasn’t injured.

Within rescue, it is best (if possible) for a fox cub to be reared with other cubs to ensure they learn vital survival skills for when they’re released back into the wild. While it may be necessary to raise a fox cub on its own, important measures need to be taken to ensure the cub is kept as ‘wild’ as possible through its enclosure/diet and there is no risk of imprinting on humans.

As this little guy came into our care alone, our wildlife team had to make a decision that would ensure he had the best chance of survival. Luckily our sector colleagues at Kildare Wildlife Rescue had several cubs in their care around the same age.🐾

After spending a week being cared for by our wildlife team, the fox cub made the journey down to Kildare. Here, he has been integrated with three other cubs to learn how to ‘fox’, before eventually being released!

By working together with a fellow rescue organisation and putting welfare first, we can prioritise what matters the most – this little fox cub growing up and heading back to the wild where he belongs.🦊

ONE DAY TO GO: We are 24 hours away from the second stage vote at Stormont. 🕒

John Blair’s bill to ban hunting with dogs in Northern Ireland is hitting the floor tomorrow, and your MLAs need to know where you stand.

We’ve heard the myths, so let’s clear up the facts:

❌ It will NOT criminalise regular dog walkers.
❌ It will NOT impact shooting.
✅ It ONLY targets those who find entertainment in watching wild animals chased to exhaustion and torn apart.

Let’s get this across the line together. 🦊❤️
