Community Advice Newry Mourne and Down, formerly Citizens Advice Newry, Mourne and Down was incorporated on 1st January 2019 following the realignment of Citizens Advice Bureau in Northern Ireland. Community Advice is a registered charity that provides free advice and support to the residents of Newry, Mourne and Down on problems they face in their everyday lives. This could be to lift the phone,

ping an email, or send a WhatsApp, we are here for you whenever you need us. We help people find a way forward. We can all face problems that seem complicated or intimidating. At Community Advice we believe no one should have to face these problems without good quality, free independent advice. That is why we are here: to give people the knowledge and confidence they need to find their way forward - whoever they are, and whatever their problem. When we say we are for everyone, we mean it. People rely on us because we are independent and totally impartial.

Statement on Recent Racist Violence in Northern Ireland

We condemn all violence, intimidation and disorder, from whatever quarter it comes and regardless of who is responsible. Violence can never be justified, and it has no place in our communities. We firmly support the rule of law and the work of the relevant authorities in protecting the public, holding those responsible to account and ensuring that justice is served fairly and impartially.

We are deeply saddened and appalled by the recent racist violence and disorder witnessed across Northern Ireland. We condemn, without reservation, all forms of racism, intimidation and hatred. There can be no justification for attacking people, damaging homes or businesses, or making individuals and families feel unsafe because of their race, nationality, faith or background.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with those who have come from other countries to make Northern Ireland their home. They are our friends, neighbours, colleagues, healthcare workers, educators, business owners, carers and community leaders. Their contribution to our economy, health service, education system and public life is vital, significant and deeply valued.

Northern Ireland is stronger because of the people who have chosen to live, work, study and raise their families here. Diversity brings new ideas, experiences, cultures and perspectives. It enriches our communities, strengthens our workplaces and deepens our understanding of one another. It is something to be welcomed and celebrated, never feared or attacked.

The actions of a small number of individuals must not be allowed to define who we are. The overwhelming majority of people in Northern Ireland believe in fairness, dignity, respect and the right of every person to live free from fear. At moments like this, silence is not enough. We must stand together, speak out against racism and challenge the language and behaviour that allow hatred and division to grow.

Our history has taught us the devastating consequences of division. Our future must be built differently through compassion, inclusion, mutual respect and a shared commitment to creating communities in which everyone belongs.

To all those who have been frightened, threatened or harmed, we want you to know that you are valued, you are welcome and you are not alone. We will continue to work alongside our partners and communities to promote understanding, challenge prejudice and build a safer, more welcoming and more inclusive Northern Ireland for everyone.
