The Newry People’s Forum is holding a public meeting tomorrow evening, Thursday 8th October at 7.30pm in the Canal Court Hotel.

There are major issues affecting the future of our city regeneration, town centre safety, the canal and river, tourism, sporting facilities, community investment and much more.

It’s important that Barcroft residents, and people from right across Newry, get behind meetings like this. If we want better for our city, we need to be in the room, asking questions and making our voices heard.

Please come along if you can and share this post. Newry deserves better, but change needs people to get involved.

A very important public meeting is taking place tonight at 7pm in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry, regarding the future of services at Daisy Hill Hospital.

With the current concerns around maternity and other services, this is an opportunity for local residents to hear what is happening and make their views known.

Daisy Hill serves Newry and the wider surrounding community, and decisions about its future will affect families across our area.

Barcroft Community Association – Community Update

Last Thursday, Barcroft Community Association facilitated a multi-agency meeting at Barcroft Community Centre involving statutory agencies and other community stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting was to address ongoing issues affecting Barcroft and, importantly, to find a constructive way forward from the current position.

Unfortunately, due to matters entirely outside the control of Barcroft Community Association, the meeting had to be abandoned before those discussions could take place.

This was particularly disappointing given the considerable goodwill shown by BCA and the other stakeholders who made the effort to attend and engage constructively.

At present, the position previously outlined by Barcroft Community Association remains unchanged, and we are currently assessing the situation before determining our next steps.

We remain committed to representing the interests of Barcroft residents and will provide a further update when appropriate.

Many people will have seen the story today about a Newry family of five currently living in emergency accommodation after losing their privately rented home.

Pep is a local man and the family previously lived here in Barcroft. With three young children, this is an incredibly difficult situation for any family to find themselves in.

Barcroft Community Association is sharing his family’s story in the hope that getting a few more eyes on it might help.

We appreciate the pressures that exist around housing locally and sincerely hope that suitable family accommodation can be found for Pep, his partner and their three young children as soon as possible.

From everyone at Barcroft Community Association, we wish the family well and hope they have somewhere they can properly call home very soon.

The family were very quickly rendered homeless when their rented home was put up for sale by their landlord. Now they have been placed in emergency accommodation, and with three young children, they say they are at breaking point more than a week on. https://tinyurl.com/yuyxdwju

Barcroft Community Association stands in solidarity with Meadow & Armagh road community association following the disgraceful act of vandalism at their community centre.

The deliberate setting alight of their wishing well is not simply damage to property — it is an attack on the hard work, time and commitment of local volunteers who give freely of themselves to provide activities, events and opportunities for children, families and residents.

It is particularly disheartening to see this happen immediately after what was clearly a hugely successful community fun weekend.

Those involved in community associations know just how much unseen work goes into organising these events. Volunteers should be supported and encouraged, not faced with mindless destruction of something they have worked hard to provide.

We want to express our full support to everyone at Meadow & Armagh Road Community Association. Please don't allow the actions of a small minority to overshadow the positive work you are doing.

We hope those responsible are identified and held accountable.

Keep going, the positive work being done for our communities and, particularly, our young people is far more powerful than the actions of those who seek to destroy it.

We are deeply saddened to learn that yesterday/last night our wee wishing well was deliberately set on fire outside our centre! Our association invest alot of time VOLUNTEERING to facilitate activities, entertainment and games for the people of the community, to wake up to this vandalism is very disheartening especially after the great successful fun weekend 💔! However as we are determined to find who's to blame we will not let them stop the good effort and time we invest for the kids!!
