Paddy Raff joins the cast as The Commodore’s new chef and barman Malcolm McQueen. Tim McGarry plays Port Devine’s minister the Reverend Dodds. And Letitia Hector as Marlene’s love interest Anna Baptiste. Niall Wright (A Woman Of Substance) will reprise his role as Callum McCarthy.
They join regular returning cast members Kerri Quinn (Marlene Pettigrew), Tara-Lynne O’Neill (Eve Dunlop), Niamh McGrady (Nicole Devine-Dunwoody), Marcus Onilude (Luke Jackson), Cameron Cuffe (Donal Gallagher), Katie Shortt (Brandi McClure), Eleanor Methven (Lois Dunlop), Paddy Jenkins (Seamie McCarthy), Jonny Grogan (Ross Dunlop) and RheAna Kamalu (Chloe Jackson). This special film will also include scenes filmed with Finnian Garbutt (Ryan Power) who died earlier this year.
The story opens with a violent crime committed against a much-loved local and the police investigation brings bad news for Detective Sergeant Marlene Pettigrew. Love is also in the air and there’s a wedding to plan, but this is Port Devine, what could possibly go wrong?
Hope Street is filmed in and around County Down’s seaside town of Donaghadee. Across its five series, it has provided a development pipeline for writing, acting and production talent from Northern Ireland, demonstrating the BBC’s commitment to the local creative sector.
Mary McKeagney, Commissioning Editor, BBC Northern Ireland says: “We hope this feature length film will provide the perfect opportunity to tie up some loose ends for fans. And with some new characters thrown into the mix, I’m sure there will be plenty of drama in Port Devine!
“It is a bit of a thank you to all our audiences for engaging so enthusiastically with the series.
“Thanks, too, to the cast and crew, past and present, for bringing us such joy across all five series so far, and to Northern Ireland Screen for their continued support, and to the people of Donaghadee for having us.”
Helen Munson, Commissioning Editor, BBC Daytime, says: “We are delighted to be working with Long Story TV to bring something very special to fans of Hope Street. What a treat to have a feature length special!
“And it’s a joy to be filming in Northern Ireland again with our incredibly talented cast and crew, bringing Port Devine to life with its usual warmth, wit and charm”.
Behind the drama are acclaimed producers Paul Marquess and Donna Wiffen from Long Story TV, known for producing London Kills and The Light in The Hall. The feature film has been written by Paul Marquess.
Paul Marquess says: “How brilliant to be shooting Hope Street The Movie!
“Hope Street has always celebrated Northern Ireland wit, wisdom and talent – and One Of Our Own will continue that tradition. It’s a joy to rejoin our friends in Port Devine and to get to work with our hugely talented cast and crew once again.”
Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen, says: “We’re proud to support Long Story TV on this special feature-length chapter of Hope Street, which continues to showcase the depth of creative talent in Northern Ireland.
“From its writing and performances to its production base in Donaghadee, the series has shown how locally made stories can connect with audiences at home and beyond. One of Our Own is a fitting next step for this much-loved drama.”
The drama is commissioned by Eddie Doyle, Senior Head of Content Commissioning for BBC Northern Ireland and Rob Unsworth, Senior Head of Commissioning for BBC Daytime. It part of the long-running partnership between the BBC and Northern Ireland Screen which continues to support the local screen industry, ensuring Northern Ireland is better represented to audiences across the UK and internationally.
Series one to five are available to watch now in full on BBC iPlayer, and on BritBox in its international markets.
