The sunshine and warm weather is coming back!☀️

After a spell of wet and windy weather, we know many of you will be heading to the coast to make the most of the sun.

Before you set off, take a few moments to plan your visit:
🌊 Choose a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags.�📱 Check the weather, tide times and sea conditions before you go�🚩 Make sure you head to the flagged areas, they’re there to keep you safe�👀 Keep a close eye on children and vulnerable adults at all times�💧 Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take regular breaks from the sun�📍 If you get into trouble in the water, Float to Live: tilt your head back, relax and control your breathing�📞 In a coastal emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

🌊 Surfers — stay safe out there

Whenever possible, choose a lifeguarded beach and surf between the black & white flags. If you can’t, take time to understand your location — read hazard signs and ask locals for advice.

✔️ Always wear a leash — if you get into trouble, hold onto your board, it helps you float
✔️ Surf with others, especially in bigger swell — surfers look out for each other
✔️ In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard
✔️ Tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back
✔️ Check weather, swell, and tide times before you go
✔️ Know your limits — don’t push beyond your ability
✔️ If you’re in difficulty, raise your arm and shout for help

Even the most experienced surfers can get caught out — respect the ocean 🏄‍♀️

A few of our team were absolutely smashing it this weekend 🙌
Lead Supervisor Lewis Timson came first in the Surf & Turf Wax event — a 500m swim followed by a 5K run 🏊‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Also a great effort from Liam Dennis-Green, who competed in the Surf & Turf Wax event 👏

And Supervisor John Steadman also took gold after winning the Olympic distance Kernowman triathlon🥇

Also huge respect to Senior Lifeguard Saul Woodfinden & Lifeguard Jessie Holmes, who both took on the Kernowman Half Ironman distance 💪
Saul finishing in 5:09, and Jessie in 5:30, placing 5th in the women’s category 👏

Proud of the whole team 💪 💙

Sun’s out this bank holiday! 🌊☀️

We’re expecting a busy weekend on the beaches, so if you’re heading to the coast, make sure you choose a lifeguarded beach.

🏊‍♂️ Swim between the red and yellow flags
🏄 New to surfing? Head between the black and white flags
👋 Come and chat to us — we’re here to help and know the conditions best

Float to Live could save your life. Remember:

🔹 Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
🔹 Relax and try to control your breathing
🔹 Use your hands to help you stay afloat
🔹 Don’t worry if your legs sink — we all float differently

Practice these steps at a supervised location, such as a swimming pool or lifeguarded beach, so you know what to do in an emergency.

If you see anyone in trouble at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard 📞

Newquays Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Lewis Timson visited the RNLIs headquarters on his way to represent the RNLI at the ‘Global search and rescue Excellence Awards’ in London on Friday where the RNLI won 2 of 4 nominations 🏆 A fantastic ceremony, well done to all winners and nominees 👏🏻

Our RNLI Lifeguard teams are now back on daily patrols, and we’re excited to welcome Great Western, Tolcarne and Porth to the line-up 🛟

We’d like to introduce ourselves as the new Comms Ambassadors for the Newquay lifeguards 👋

Elenie has been part of the RNLI Lifeguard team for the past few years and recently featured in the latest series of Saving Lives at Sea. When she’s not lifeguarding, she also volunteers as shore crew for the RNLI Newquay Lifeboat.

Tamsin has been with the RNLI for 10 years in the Newquay area, working as a Lifeguard Operations Assistant. She’s also working towards being shore crew for RNLI Newquay lifeboat.

We’re really looking forward to sharing more from behind the scenes and keeping you up to date with information through the season 🌊

Multi-Service Training Day 🚁🚓🚤

Today our Lifeguards took part in a multi-service training day alongside some of the amazing emergency services we work closely with throughout the season.

The team had the opportunity to meet and learn from HM Coastguard Team and Helicopter 924, Cornwall Air Ambulance, Newquay RNLI Lifeboat Crew and Devon & Cornwall Police — gaining valuable insight into how we work together during incidents along the coastline.

Days like these are a great reminder of the importance of teamwork, communication and collaboration when responding to emergencies and helping to keep our beaches safe this summer 🌊

A huge thank you to everyone involved for taking the time to share their knowledge and experience 👏
