Behind the scenes 🔧🌊

You see the lifeguards on the beach, but there’s a whole team behind the scenes making sure they’re able to do their job safely and effectively.

Meet our amazing technicians, Gareth & Ian 👋

From keeping our vehicles, equipment and kit running, to fixing the things that inevitably go wrong during a busy season — they’re the people making sure our lifeguards have what they need, when they need it.

A huge amount of work happens behind the scenes that most people never see, and Gareth & Ian are a massive part of keeping Newquay RNLI Lifeguards going. 💙

So, a big thank you to the two of them for everything they do — we couldn’t do it without you! 👏

🚨 Porth to Whipsiderry Beach Access is CLOSED 🚨

Heading to Boardmasters? Please be aware that there is no access between Porth and Whipsiderry beaches ⚠️

The beach route is cut off by the tide, and the Whipsiderry beach steps remain closed due to rockfall, meaning there is no through route ⛔️

Please don’t attempt to walk around the headland or continue along the beach, as you could become trapped by the incoming tide with no safe way out

Before setting off, plan your journey and be aware that there is no access to Whipsiderry Beach

Stay safe, look after your mates, and if you’re visiting the coast, choose a lifeguarded beach and always check local safety information 🌊

Heading to the beach during Boardmasters?🎪Make sure you understand the tide before you go

The tide can completely change the beach in just a few hours. Areas that are safe to walk on at low tide can quickly become cut off as the sea comes in, leaving people stranded

🌊 Before setting off:

✅Check the tide times
✅Allow plenty of time to return before the tide comes in
✅Don’t rely on shortcuts along the base of cliffs
✅If you’re unsure, ask one of our lifeguards

A little planning can make all the difference and help keep your day at the beach safe ✍🏼

Heading to Boardmasters? 🎶 Before you hit the beach, take 30 seconds to know before you go 🌊

Our lifeguards are here every day to help you enjoy the coast safely, but knowing a few simple things before you arrive can make all the difference.

Remember:
⛱️ Head to a lifeguarded beach and only enter the water when lifeguards are on duty between 10am-6pm
ℹ️ Check in with the Lifeguards and our information boards
🚩 Swim and bodyboard between the red and yellow flags, surf and paddleboard between the black and white flags
⚠️ Conditions change, so watch out for hazards
👀 keep an eye on the sea, the sea is always changing
👋🏼 If you’re unsure, come and chat to a Lifeguard!

Whether you’re cooling off after a day at the festival or spending the whole day by the sea, make sure beach safety is part of your plan ☀️

Happy Lifeguard Appreciation Day 🙌🌊

We’re proud to play our part in keeping people safe at the coast. Since 2001, RNLI lifeguards in the South West have saved more than 1,000 lives and helped prevent countless incidents through patrols, rescues and safety advice.

As we head into our 25th summer, thank you to every lifeguard who has worn the red and yellow and helped save lives at sea.

What a wonderful tribute to celebrate 25 Years of RNLI Lifeguards this Friday ❤️💛

A huge thank you to Newquay Lions for helping to mark a very special milestone!

To celebrate 25 years of RNLI Lifeguards keeping people safe on our beaches, the Huer's Hut, Newquay will be illuminated in RNLI Lifeguard red and yellow from 7:30pm on Friday 31st July.

We’re incredibly grateful to Newquay Lions for organising this wonderful tribute and for recognising the dedication and commitment of generations of RNLI Lifeguards who have helped save lives along our coastline over the past 25 years.

If you’re in Newquay on Friday evening, take a moment to look up at the Huers Hut and join us in celebrating this milestone.

Today our Lead Supervisor, Lewis Timson, took to the stage at the UK Surf & Skate Expo 2026 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of RNLI Lifeguards, the Newquay team will be celebrating this milestone on Lifeguard Appreciation Day this Friday, check our page for details 👍🏼

It was a great opportunity to answer questions from attendees, as well as highlight the dedication of the lifeguards who help keep people safe on our beaches every day.
