🐾Release time 🐾

This is the gorgeous Winter, one of our ‘seasons litter’. Admitted at just 82g after the nest was disturbed by a dog she has spent 4 weeks in our care - it’s amazing just how fast hoglets grow up!

It’s been a very busy start to August, with 48 hedgehogs already released and more organised for the coming days 🎉

Every hedgehog we release heads off with a cosy nest, along with supportive food and water provided at their release site. This helps them settle back into life in the wild, which is especially important during these very dry conditions.

We’re so pleased to see Winter back where she belongs. Please support hedgehogs in your area by putting out a shallow dish of water and refreshing it daily 💙🦔🐾

⚠️ Garden Netting: A Wildlife Hazard ⚠️

Tuesday brought two serious entanglement admissions in quick succession.

One was Flamingo, who became badly tangled in a badminton net. The net was tightly wrapped around her neck and one of her hind legs, causing painful injuries.

Thankfully, she was found and brought to us before the damage became even more severe. Since arriving, Flamingo has responded well to pain relief and anti-inflammatories with the swelling reducing dramatically.

She’ll now remain in our care for a minimum of 7 days while we monitor her recovery. If she continues to heal well with no further complications, she’ll be released back into the wild where she belongs 🌿

These injuries are preventable. Please make sure garden netting, sports nets and other netting are kept well off the ground and stored away securely when not in use. A few moments of care can save a hedgehog’s life.

Thank you for helping us keep wildlife safe 💚🦔🐾

2026: The Story So Far…

728 admissions so far this year. 253 in July alone 🐾

These numbers show just how busy we’ve been, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience as our small team works tirelessly to keep up with demand.

The truth is, we simply couldn’t have achieved this at our old site. Our new Hogspital has completely transformed what we’re able to do, allowing us to care for more hedgehogs than ever before.

But admissions are still rising faster than our capacity. We’ve recently invested in four more incubators to keep up with the influx of tiny hoglets, and our next priority is building more isolation hutches so we can continue providing the care these patients need.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped make this possible. Every donation, share and kind word really does make a difference💚🦔🐾
