Please note that Cornwall Council will be removing the dustbin from the Community Garden in the next week.

Please do not leave rubbish as it won't be collected!

We're so incredibly grateful to the wonderful team at Laurence Associates for their generous support.

When we were told we needed to apply for planning permission for the redevelopment project, we approached them to ask for help. We also dropped in that we had no spare funds to pay for their expertise!

So we owe a huge 'thank you' to the team for giving us their time and skills, and for securing planning permission for the garden redevelopment.

We're so close to kicking off the project and can't wait to see our dreams become a reality.

Great news from Newquay.

Laurence Associates has secured full planning permission for the redevelopment of a valued community garden, helping transform an underused space that had fallen into disrepair.

Working alongside architects and community stakeholders, our team helped bring forward plans for a refreshed public space featuring new seating, lawn areas, improved planting, a shade sail and better access throughout the site.

The approved scheme will improve safety, boost biodiversity, support local businesses and create a more welcoming place for residents and visitors to enjoy.

We look forward to seeing this important community space brought back to life.

If you have plans for a community project or development proposal, our team would be delighted to help guide the planning process.

Last week was a little challenging, to say the least ..... but today we received brilliant news!

We have been granted Planning Permission so that the project can go ahead. We had never really doubted that this would be the case, but with these things, you never know.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Laurence Associates in Truro for giving us pro-bono support with the process. We had to raid the coffers to pay for the planning application process, but without Tom and Richard at Laurence Associates expertise and generosity of time we wouldn't have been able to get through the process properly.

Another hurdle overcome .... so close to getting started!

** EVENT POSTPONED **

We're really sorry to announce that we are having to postpone the 'breaking ground' event at the Garden which we had planned for 25th April.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress made over the past two years on the redevelopment of Crantock Street Community Garden.

During this time, we have successfully secured major funding, put a lease in place, and are on the verge of receiving planning permission - an important milestone for a project that means so much to our local community.

However, we are very sorry to share that, due to unexpected ill-health, our appointed contractor has had to withdraw from the project at the very last minute. This has understandably impacted our timeline. As a result, the ‘breaking ground’ event planned for 25th April will no longer be going ahead as scheduled.

While this is a disappointing setback, we are already working hard to appoint a new contractor and establish a revised timeline, which we hope to be able to confirm this week. Our commitment to delivering a vibrant, inclusive community space remains stronger than ever.

We will share further updates soon, including a new date to celebrate the start of work, as well as the launch of our Crowdfunder to support the finishing touches, such as planting and community art.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us. We look forward to bringing this project to life very soon!

Many thanks

Dear Residents

You may have noticed an increasing amount of rubbish strewn around the Crantock Street Community Garden and along the road recently. Not only is this unsightly, but it is also unhygienic.

This issue is largely due to household waste being left next to, or overflowing from, the public bin in the Community Garden. As a result, seagulls are tearing open bin bags, scattering rubbish across the area. By the time this is discovered, the damage is already done, and while the bin collection team do their best, much of the debris - such as plastic containers and tissues - remains spread around the garden and nearby streets. We even saw a torn rubbish bag being blown down the road past the cinema this morning.

We kindly ask that you do not use the Community Garden bin for household waste. This bin is intended for litter from people using or passing through the space. If you do need to use it in exceptional circumstances, please ensure that all waste is placed securely inside the bin - do not leave bags beside it or protruding from the opening.

This situation is unfair on the volunteers who care for the garden, as well as on the collection crews who are left to deal with the aftermath.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,
Crantock Street Community Garden Team

Please STOP leaving bin bags and rubbish by the bin in the garden!

✋️

This has happened over the past 3 mornings and the bags are attacked by seagulls. Rubbish ends up all over the garden
