Blystra Arts

Blystra Arts Hi, we are Blystra Arts. We are a Newquay arts company interested in creating unique arts’ events in unusual places.

We create both professional and community performance, run arts’ workshops and activity in and with the community. Blystra Arts is a Newquay based arts company. We create and put on unique arts’ events in unusual and interesting places. Our creative team work in the areas of theatre, storytelling, film, music and visual art and we create work which explores the interplay between these art forms. W

e love creating pieces of work that are interactive, different, fun and accessible to the whole community. We also offer workshops and community arts activity for all to enjoy throughout the year, running workshops and offering community performance opportunities for people in NEWQUAY and beyond. We try to make all our projects as green as possible, using green technologies to power our creations. We promote events and run projects that celebrate where we live in Newquay, Cornwall, which we believe is a unique and wonderful community to live and work in, with a strong cultural identity which we often reflect and celebrate in the work we create.

So sad to hear of the passing of local woman, Liz Carne who was such a supporter of our work. Her father and grandfather featured very heavily in our 2017-2018 play and project, Tide and Time, which was one of our first creative heritage projects we delivered. She had such a huge and positive impact on the Newquay community. RIP Liz. Your kindness and warmth will be never be forgotten.

Tributes paid to community stalwart for life-long commitment to Cornwall

Our Director, Ellen went down to see the Railway200 Inspiration train down at Newquay Railway Station today and to chat to BBC Cornwall about our recent project, Stories from the Station, which was funded by GWR. Listen to her interview at 2:39:14.

If you do get the chance to go and see the Railway 200 train which is at Newquay Railway Station until the 11th April then definitely do so. It is full of interesting facts and stories from the last 200 years of the railway and Newquay Station is the only place in Cornwall that the train is coming too, so it's well worth supporting.

At the start of this season we were lucky enough to be involved in the Blystra Arts project Stories from the Station. Six of our members got to perform at The Headland Hotel in Sept as part of this project, performing an extract from Headland, a play written by Emma Spurgin-Hussey. Wow! What a wonderful night we had last night for the first night of The Importance of Being Earnest with Cornwall Youth Theatre Company. So many talented young actors in this cast. They smashed it and even better the show is coming to Newquay tomorrow night to Lane Theatre Newquay, and tickets are selling fast. We'd love to have a sell out audience in Newquay, so if you fancy supporting some very talented up and coming actors and seeing a funny, iconic play then you can get tickets from https://www.trybooking.com/uk/events/landing/100106 for tomorrow's show.
