Blystra Arts

Blystra Arts Hi, we are Blystra Arts. We are a Newquay arts company interested in creating unique arts’ events in unusual places.

We create both professional and community performance, run arts’ workshops and activity in and with the community. Blystra Arts is a Newquay based arts company. We create and put on unique arts’ events in unusual and interesting places. Our creative team work in the areas of theatre, storytelling, film, music and visual art and we create work which explores the interplay between these art forms. We love creating pieces of work that are interactive, different, fun and accessible to the whole community. We also offer workshops and community arts activity for all to enjoy throughout the year, running workshops and offering community performance opportunities for people in NEWQUAY and beyond. We try to make all our projects as green as possible, using green technologies to power our creations. We promote events and run projects that celebrate where we live in Newquay, Cornwall, which we believe is a unique and wonderful community to live and work in, with a strong cultural identity which we often reflect and celebrate in the work we create.

Do you want to go into the performance or theatre sector?
Then CYTC may be the place for you.

We now have our 2026 - 2027 season dates for Cornwall Youth Theatre Company.

We have three skills sessions for potential new members to try this season:

27th Sept - Stage Combat with Andy Blake

11th Oct - Storytelling with Jenny Beare

Emailed [email protected] if you're interested in coming along and giving these a go.

So after well over a year of work we're finally excited to be able to release our Connected Communities report which was commissioned by Safer Stronger Communities. The Connected Communities project saw us co-manage the first ever Empowering Newquay's Future event in May 2025, and attend Look Out Festival in Sept 2025 and go on to write a report, which explored the reasons why young people are leaving Newquay. ONS data reveals that older teens and people in their 20's are not staying or choosing Newquay as a place to live and the Connected Communities report explores why this could be.

You can find out more about the project and read the report here:

Also, we created a film, alongside Rooted Media Group, which sums up the data in a more accessible way here:

This film accompanies a report written in 2026 based on feedback fr...

Cornwall Youth Theatre Company has one more show to go this season at Penlee Park Open Air Theatre on Mon 20th July. We'd love to get a good audience for our talented troupe of young actors. Spread the word and come and see our version of this hilarious Oscar Wilde show.

Just over a month to go until we're coming to Penlee Park Open Air Theatre with our version of The Importance of Being Earnest. We're super excited to bring our show to this amazing outdoor venue in Penzance. We would love to get a great audience to support our amazingly talented troupe of young actors.
