Kernow Bys Vykken!! 〓〓

For a number of years now two leaders of the 1497 Cornish uprising against the unfair double tax of Henry VII have been remembered each year on 27th June. Michael Joseph An Gof at St Keverne and Thomas Flamank at Bodmin.

For the second year now, in addition to these two, a leader from Camborne, John Rosewarne is being remembered. The
commemoration will involve a march by the children of the town starting at St Meriadoc Middle School at 11.00am. The march will end at the Parish Church where speeches will be made by a number of dignitaries followed by refreshments in the church hall for the children.

During and after the march the children will be singing a song in
Cornish which they have learnt, a marching song written and composed by the late Richard Gendall.

There were a number of named leaders involved in the 1497 uprising and it is hoped that in the future other towns will embrace their local one. Celtic Nation Kernow support all efforts to remember, share and promote Kernow's history and heritage. Let's not forget our Cornish hero's from past times.

Ertach Kernow The importance of railway's to the growth of Cornwall cannot be overstated. An aspect of Cornwall and its railways are the numerous viaducts built to transport railway lines over the many valleys spanning the Cornish countryside. Some of these have the remains of the earliest viaducts and this article looks a a few of these.

Further to the latest Ertach Kernow article being published 'Boyton, tranquillity in a countryside parish' an interesting email was received from over the border. The article looks at Boyton including its historic watermill. Alan Beat sent some information about the leats and the working of watermills relating to the River Tamar.

More on this and the article can be found at: https://www.cornwallheritage.com/ertach-kernow-blogs-2026-2027/boyton-tranquillity-in-a-countryside-parish/

Marking National Mills Day on 10th May The Bridge Mill at Bridgerule will be open to visitors, a chance to see a historic working watermill. There will be entertainment and a fun family day out. More information on the poster.

The Cornish parish of Boyton borders England with a small part historically extending into Devon, one of several River Tamar side parishes far from well-known as you move west in Cornwall.

A chance to visit Tremeer House, a historic house at St Tudy rarely open to the public on Sunday 3rd May. A Garden Party and Open Gardens event to support the St Tudy Church Tower Roof Appeal. This Grade II listed house was formerly the home of Bank of England Governor Lord Eddie George. More information at www.sttudy.uk

St Tudy Historical Society have also had a change of speaker for 27th April. Andrew Langdon will be giving an illustrated talk on an Introduction to Cornish Crosses. An integral part of Cornwall's tangible heritage this would be of great interest to those who want to know more about Cornish crosses.

Thanks to the proactive St Tudy Historical Society for sharing their posters with us.
