Thank you for your support of the charity and for calling 999 and the Coastguard when you spotted someone in difficulty off Fistral Beach. Your quick actions helped ensure the right resources were alerted and the charity’s lifeboats were deployed.

Newquay lifeboat volunteers were paged at 2:46pm on Thursday 1st October following a request from Falmouth Coastguard to investigate an object seen in the water off Watergate Bay.

The charity’s D Class inshore lifeboat was launched at 3:00pm and arrived on scene at 3:15pm. The lifeboat was talked into position by Newquay coastguard search & rescue team , who were already in attendance on shore.

The object was located and identified as a fishing danbuoy with a flag attached. After confirming this was the object that had been reported, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to Newquay Harbour.

The crew arrived back at the station at 3:45pm and prepared the lifeboat for its next launch.

Newquay lifeboat volunteers were paged at 9:35pm on Wednesday 30th September following a request from Falmouth Coastguard to assist in a search for an individual at South Fistral.

The charity’s D Class inshore lifeboat was launched at 9:45pm and arrived on scene at 9:55pm. In consultation with Newquay coastguard search & rescue team, the crew commenced a shoreline search of the area.

The charity’s Atlantic 85 B Class lifeboat was also launched to assist, searching areas beyond those being covered by the D Class.

Despite an extensive search by both lifeboats and Newquay coastguard search & rescue team no one was located.

Both lifeboats were stood down at 11:10pm and returned to Newquay Harbour, arriving back at 11:20pm.

After a long summer we’ve got plenty to celebrate! We are extremely proud of our crew and four of our volunteers were presented with their long service awards late last year.

Graham Mountford, Richard Martin, Ross King and Christian Brown have been volunteers at Newquay for a combined 120 years!

On Saturday 19th September, Ross and his partner Charlotte attended a special event at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, recognising Ross’s 20 years of service with the RNLI.

This event provided an opportunity to formally recognise his incredible commitment and dedication to the charity.

A huge thank you to Ross for nearly three decades of service, and to Charlotte for her continued support. 👏

As summer draws to a close, our volunteer crews have been working hard to keep our coastline safe. We have some fantastic achievements to celebrate which we will be posting about in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here are some of the shouts we’ve responded to recently:

In the early hours of 12th September, our volunteer lifeboat crews were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard to assist a vulnerable individual. The charity’s D Class and Atlantic 85 lifeboats attended and the incident was resolved without incident, with everyone safe.

The following day, 13th September, at 07:05pm, the charity’s D Class lifeboat was tasked to Penpol Creek following concerns that tents at the site could become submerged by the high tide.

On arrival, the situation was deemed safe as the tide was beginning to fall.

Our volunteers remain ready to respond whenever they are needed.

Newquay lifeboat volunteers were paged at 6:59pm on Sunday 6 September and tasked to assist in the search for an individual who had reportedly been swimming out towards Goose Rock and had been missing for around two hours.

Both lifeboats were launched, with the charity’s D Class launching first, followed by the Atlantic 85 B Class lifeboat.

The casualty was swiftly located on Goose Rock and welcomed the offer of assistance. They were safely taken back to Crantock Beach.

Both lifeboats were washed down, refuelled and ready for service again by 8:30pm.

Remember- when enjoying the sea always tell someone where you are going and when you hope to be back.

A powerful reminder of what our lifeboat crews can be called upon to do.

This episode of Saving Lives at Sea features our Newquay crew responding to a serious casualty following a 30-foot jump while coasteering.

From launching at short notice to working alongside a second lifeboat and air ambulance crew, it shows the skill, teamwork and dedication of our volunteers when it matters most.
