1x Detachment Commander, 2x Instructing Staff, 1x Civilian Assistant

33x Male Cadets and 11x Female Cadets

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is a national voluntary youth organisation, Formed in 1860 the organisation is sponsored and supported by the army for male and female young people between the ages of 12(Y8) - 18, and adult youth leaders aged 18 - 55 years.

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is a national voluntary youth organisation which is sponsored and supported by the Army and provides challenging military, adventurous and community activities. Its aim is to inspire young people to achieve success in life and develop in them the qualities required of a good citizen. This aim is achieved by:

A) - Providing progressive cadet training often of a challenging and exciting nature, to foster confidence, self reliance, initiative, loyalty and A sense of service to other people. B) - Encouraging the development of personal powers of practical leadership and the ability to work successfully as a member of a team. C) - Stimulating an interest in the Army, its achievements, skills and values and advising and preparing those considering a career in the services or with the reserve forces.

General information

Newport Troop meets every Monday and Wednesday evening from 1900hrs until 2130hrs including during school half terms. Most of the Uniform and Equipment a Cadet requires is supplied by the Ministry of Defence but members do need to provide themselves with a standard pair of British Army Boots, a sleeping bag (3 season minimum), a military green rucksack (50litre minimum) and at Newport Troop Cadets are required to wear a Unit sports Top set at £40. As a successful youth organisation Newport Troop prides itself with being one of the most cost effective organisations that its cadets can be proud off. Members pay a £5 per month donation and a weekend away will only set you back £10, or £75 for a two week summer camp. ACF Activities include: Military knowledge, Military Drill, Map Reading, First Aid, Community Work, Expedition Training, Shooting, Skill at Arms, Military Skills, Fieldcraft, Signals, Football, Rugby, Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country, Archery, Paintballing, Clay Shooting, Cycling, Mountain Walking, Basketball, Hockey, Handball, Circuit Training, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Bouldering, Kayaking, Problem Solving, Leadership, Instructional Training. AND MORE.... All Cadets can gain a large amount of different qualifications and awards whilst in the Cadets including Nationally recognised First Aid qualifications, Adventure Training awards, Duke of Edinburgh Awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and even a BTEC first diploma in Public services which is the equivalent to 4 GCSE's A* to C level.
