We’re so proud of this young lady who scooped a Highly Commended award in the Environment category at GAVO - Newport awards night for all her community volunteering work in Maindee. Her journey includes working in the library, helping with organising the festival and community pantry all the while learning about sustainable living and inspiring young people around her. Congratulations to our friends at The Gap and Newport Cycle Hub too!

MAINDEE UNLIMITED Annual General Meeting: The AGM is a chance to find out what the Charity has been doing over the last year, ask questions and say what you think are the priorities for Maindee. We will be electing new Charity Trustees and approving the annual accounts. It’s been wonderful to be involved in this Green Careers Pathway project - this month we’ve seen some inspiring young people getting valuable work experience in our own new community space!

🤝🌿 Growing our Green Careers network

It’s been a busy month for the Green Careers Pathway team as we’ve been out meeting organisations, building new relationships and creating more opportunities for young people across Wales.

We’ve connected with organisations including Newport Mind, Castell Howell, Itec Newport, Ambion, the Senedd, The King's Trust, Newport Dragons Rugby, Newport Foodbank, Social Firms Wales, Waste Savers, E.ON, Connect to Work Swansea and many more.

We’ve also been introducing Green Careers to new communities, including at Al-Noor Mosque in Newport, and working alongside teams across to explore new opportunities.

These conversations are helping us build pathways into volunteering, training, work experience, behind-the-scenes visits and employment, giving young people more chances to explore what a green career could look like for them. 💚

Perhaps the one thing Greening Maindee / Maindee Unlimited Llyfrgell Maindee Library has learnt over the years is the importance of collaboration and partnership working to strengthen communities.

A new lease of life has been given to Eveswell Community Centre thanks to the incredible work of our good friends at Toc H Newport who’ve raised funds and overseen the year long refurbishment of the centre which is due to launch later this autumn. 🌱

Greening Maindee has been gardening at Eveswell CC for over 7 years and we’re acutely aware how important these facilities are for the health and well-being of local residents.

We also would like to take this opportunity to thank Newport City Council Parks & Biodiversity teams for their valued support at every level. Contractors and Officers who’s hard work often goes unnoticed. 💚

The photos show 50 + bulk bags of green waste generated following the centre refurbishment which NCC very kindly removed and composted.
