The competition is open to all shooters who have access to a qualifying air rifle (full details are included on the entry form above):

All events are for competition / match air rifles of 4.5mm (.177) calibre fitted with open or dioptre sights and with a maximum power of 6.64 ft/lbs / 9 joules. Field Target air rifles (or any other type of air rifle) of 4.5mm (.177) calibre fitted with open or dioptre sights are acceptable if power is restricted to 6.64 ft/lbs / 9 joules or lower. Scope sights, or any other magnifying or telescopic sights, are NOT permitted under any circumstance. For the Newport Open competition, all pellets must be loaded into the rifle individually (i.e. no magazines are permitted) so that any pellets in use are available for inspection throughout the competition. Targets are placed at a distance of 6.4m (7 yards) from the shooting line, with the bull at a height of 5 feet (152cm) from the ground. The targets will be a white painted steel plate aiming at a bull 9.54mm in diameter (3/8”). Eight radial scoring groves are located every 4mm from the edge of the bull. A clean bull (no mark on the plate) scores 10, a mark on the plate touching the bull but not touching the first scoring groove is scored a 9, a splash touching the first scoring groove but not touching the second scoring groove is scored an 8, and so on, with a splash on the plate not touching the last (eighth) scoring groove being scored a zero (mud). If a shot falls outside the plate boundary (i.e. leaves no mark on the plate) then the shooter is permitted to retake their shot. The number of shots are 10 (TEN) to count, with two marked sighter shots to begin (12 shots total).
