Age Alive aims to develop the skills of Black Minority Ethnic (BME) people over 50 years old of socially disadvantaged communities in Newport, in such a way that they are empowered to be able to identify and help meet their own needs. To achieve this, we provide opportunities such as creative writing, performing arts, story-telling, choir singing, handcrafts, walking, swimming, healthy eating sess
ions, and exercise classes. During COVID, the committee adapted to the ongoing situation by moving some services online. Age Alive continues to run in-person activities such as weekly walks and an exercise class with Re-Engage once a month. In addition, members can access weekly online wellbeing and mindfulness sessions and varied exercise classes running twice a week. These activities enable members of the group to participate more fully in society as well as bring people together from different cultural and religious backgrounds.
