We thought maybe you might like to know a little more about us and our training and experience ☺️☺️
I'm Erika (dark hair) and I have 2 children aged 9 and 2.
I'm a breastfeeding counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers.
This means I've done a 2 year course on breastfeeding. It's quite in depth, covering pretty much anything breastfeeding related that isn't medical.
I have been volunteering in breastfeeding support for around 9 years. In our groups and for the last year nationwide on the helpline.
Dani (red hair) has 3 children, 11, 9 and 6.
She is an Association of Breastfeeding Mothers peer supporter, and a helpline supporter. She is also a doula, and has experience supporting in hospital settings.
Dani has easily as much or more experience and knowledge as Erika, just not all the bits of paper. Plus she's far more happy to lay on the floor to show off side lying breastfeeding positions which is fun for all of us. ☺️
Dani has also been volunteering for around 9 years, and professionally in various settings for around 5 years.
While our group has been happily running as a social group for all of this time, we've also helped with a huge range of breastfeeding issues and problems, and helped to normalise and reassure when behaviour is normal and age appropriate.
We've been to conferences, study days, and learned from some of the best breastfeeding experts in the country. Which puts us in a brilliant position to support you even if we don't know the answer.
If we don't know the answer, or something is beyond our remit, we can signpost you to someone who will be able to support you further. This is actually a huge advantage to the training we do in that we are very aware of the limits of our knowledge and will always be happy to provide evidence or references for the information we share.
The 2nd and 3rd slides have some info on the various differences between different levels of breastfeeding training. ☺️
Couple of other random facts about us... We both love bright colours 🌈 and sharks 🦈
