Newhaven & Seaford Sea Cadets (TS Defiance) is a volunteer youth organisation for 10 - 18 year olds. We are staffed only by dedicated volunteers and receive no direct funding from the Government or the Royal Navy and are our own Registered Charity. Sea Cadets is a disciplined youth organisation based on traditions of the Royal Navy. We provide a wide range of activities to our Cadets that include

sailing, canoeing, rock climbing, engineering, IT and communications, music and cookery. We aim to encourage good citizenship providing worthwhile qualifications, experience and adventure.

The BTEC Level 2 in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community will help you develop a wide variety of skills including effective communication, career planning, the value of volunteering and character development.

You can expect to study units including:

📌Fundamentals of nautical studies
📌Land navigation by map and compass

Aimed at cadets aged 16-18, this nationally recognised qualification will enhance further education or job applications, and it also looks great on a CV alongside school and college work.

NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Newhaven & Seaford Sea Cadet unit (TS Defiance) will be held at the Meeching Hall, Ford Road, Newhaven BN9 9QQ at 7:30 p.m. on Monday 22nd September 2025 to conduct the following business.
AGENDA
1. Apologies for absence
2. Opening address or comments by President or Chairperson
3. Minutes of the last AGM for approval
4. Matters arising from minutes of the last AGM (25th November 2024)
5. Unit Chairperson’s Report
6. Commanding Officer’s/Officer-in-Charge’s Report
7. Treasurer’s Report and adoption of accounts
8. Election/Re-election of the Unit Management Team (UMT)* trustees
9. Any Other Business**

*Notes:
• Election of the Unit Management Team (UMT) trustees – Individuals who are seeking election to the UMT must have their nomination proposed and seconded.
• The criteria as to who is eligible to sit on the UMT can be found in the unit’s charity constitution (SCSC). Please contact Chairman for details.
• Any waiving of these criteria is at the discretion of the Volunteer & Business Support Manager (VBSM).

Nominations need to be received by the Chairman by Friday 19th September 2025.

All newly elected UMT trustees will be required to complete a disclosure application, complete a P1 form – application to join Sea Cadets which includes a Trustee Declaration indicating that they know of no reason why they cannot become a charity trustee, complete three online e-learning courses within two months and an Induction Day within 6 months of joining.

** Note: Any Other Business – Items of AOB will only be considered if they are proposed and seconded in writing to Mr Barry Burfield at least 24 hours before the meeting.
