FROM SHAMAN TO STARMAN
What do David Bowie, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and ancient shamans have in common?
We’re delighted to welcome acclaimed broadcaster, author, musician and storyteller David Bramwell to UnderCurrents for an evening exploring the hidden history of live entertainment. In From Shaman to Starman, David reveals how the ancient shaman never disappeared-they simply stepped onto the stage.
Drawing on music, folklore, ritual and popular culture, David uncovers the surprising connections between performance, healing and our enduring need to gather together for live experiences.
The evening opens with journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft, whose fascinating talk What Does Dying Sound Like? explores music, near-death experiences, ghosts, heavy metal and the search for meaning through film, sound and years of original research.
Two remarkable speakers. Two unforgettable talks. One evening exploring the stranger side of music, myth and modern culture.

It was brilliant to be able to host at The Sidings and the perfect backdrop for their new work (which looked especially striking performed on ‘s floor mural!).

A massive thank you to  and  for letting us use their beautiful space in   to take our set from new piece, Avoidance and Other Acts of Love, for a spin.

Avoidance and Other Acts of Love holds up a mirror – or three – to our personal relationships, encouraging us to find the confidence to start difficult conversations with the people we love.
With choreography from CoDa Artistic Director Nikki Watson () and an original score from sound artist Jeph Vanger () four dancers and their spinning co-stars find heartache and humour in homo-sapien interaction.

We had a lot of fun testing our reflective friends for outdoor audiences and locations, even though the heatwave made it hot work đŸ„”

FREE Creative Workshops every weekend during the Summer Holidays at The Sidings. 

From funded by Chalk Cliff Trust & Lewes District Council as part of the Community of Kindness project.

18/07 - 2-4pm 
A COMMUNITY OF KINDNESS
This project has seen hundreds of artworks designed by local children and young people appearing along the coast. Join us for our launch party and make your own Community of Kindness poster with arts educator Dawn East. 
All welcome (help needed for under 5s)

26/07 - 12-2pm 
SHOW YOUR DEVOTION
Slow down and create a hand-embossed tin ornament for someone or something that holds a place in your heart. Through the simple act of embossing, you can create small tokens of love, luck, and remembrance, with artist Caro Rose.

02/08 - 2-4pm 
SAY SOMETHING WITH BLOCKFACE 
Explore BlockFace, a modular typographic printing kit. Use the stamps to create letterforms and symbols, print bold typographic messages and discover the joys of printmaking with artist Will Mower.

MAGICAL MARINE PUPPETS
Dive into the fascinating world of puppets! Explore simple construction techniques, texture and colour to make your own sea creature puppets with artists Daisy Jordan and Liza Stevens.

MAKE YOUR OWN CLAY CHARACTER
Enjoy the possibilities of working with clay in this fun workshop with artists Julian Wild and Alison Hand (Cement). Make your own small character in clay on the day, leave it to be fired and then collect it in 2 weeks.

PLAYFUL COLLAGE CARDS
Join artist Amber Elise in a playful exploration of shape and colour. Use collage to create your own greeting cards or postcards to share with family and friends.

MAKE YOUR OWN ZINE
Join RTS Zines to make your own zine, a mini magazine to share your voice with the world! Experiment with collage, drawing, cutting, and writing to create your own DIY publication.

UNDERCURRENTS opens this weekend at the Sidings, kicking off a summer of brilliant live music, talks, film, parties and free family-friendly activities on weekends by the riverside.

Kicking off the Summer Programme with an evening of music, food and good company. Expect sets from Chris Coco, DJ Uffie and The Equal Measure (throughout the day), FREE drop in Community of Kindness workshops with Dawn East (2-4pm), FREE face painting (4-6pm), live music from The Kites (7:30-8:30pm), giant games to play and delicious food & drinks from ABYSS Brewery, and plenty of good company as we celebrate the start of something special.

Join us for our opening celebration and help set the tone for a summer of creativity, conversation and unexpected encounters.
It’s all FREE to attend but the first 200 people to register online will get also get a FREE Community of Kindness poster designed by Supermundane, a tote bag and badge when they arrive on the day.

It’s all starting this weekend with the UNDERCURRENTS LAUNCH PARTY

Join Look Again and Towner’s BN9 programme as we officially launch Undercurrents — a brand new programme of music, talks, film, festivals and unexpected culture taking over The Sidings this summer.

Expect an evening of live music from The Kites, DJ sets from Chris Coco, DJ Uffie and The Equal Measure, creative workshops with Dawn East, delicious food, drinks from ABYSS Brewery, and plenty of good company as we celebrate the start of something special.

Whether you’re already part of the Look Again community or simply curious to see what’s happening on Newhaven’s riverside, this is the perfect place to begin your Undercurrents journey.

Come for the music, stay for the atmosphere, and discover what lies beneath the surface.

Here’s your final line-up for our first ever Port of Cool
Really proud of the selection of acts and DJs joining us in a couple of weeks and can’t wait to take you on the journey with us.
Also super excited to have Brighton's coolest radio station Slack City joining us. They’ll be broadcasting live from the site all day and we’ll also be joined by a couple of Slack City Djs in the marquee playing some choice tunes.
We hope to bring you a day of musical discovery, great beer, tasty food, some fun stalls and a chance to forget about the outside world for just a bit.
Those of you that have bought tickets already a HUGE thanks and for those still holding fire : you know you want to. Toot toot! ⛎
