Part 3 of our online safety series is now running in our local primary schools. Our latest session helps children spot the warning signs when someone online is trying to trick them into sending private information or photos.

We learnt about two strategies people might use to get private information...

(1) being friendly (i.e. grooming)
(2) being pushy (i.e. putting us under pressure or making threats).

To put their skills to the test, we ran some fun challenges where children are asked to give away personal details in exchange for prizes ... but to win the game, the children had to say "no" and not reveal anything private!!

This has been a brilliant way to practise saying "no" and learn that if there's someone online that we don't already know in real life, we shouldn't ever trust them with our private information.

Since September, we've covered lots of real-life scenarios to help children learn how to protect their hearts and minds when gaming, watching videos, or chatting to people online. Thanks to St Anne's C of E Primary School for posting photos of Nathan's visit yesterday.

Articles like this are hitting our newsfeeds every day as decision-makers figure out whether children should be allowed to use social media😫In the meantime, we've just started Part 3 of our new HEART + MIND series for local schools...

📲1,600+ students have been taking part in regular lessons and assemblies to help them learn:

🪝 how apps/games keep them engaged (and how to break the cycle)

🧠 how doomscrolling affects their focus, attention and sleep (and how to take back control)

🚫 how to filter out harmful content

⚠️ how to spot scams and fakes

➕ how to handle friend requests from strangers

⏸️ how to pause, breathe and think before sharing/clicking
.. and much more!!

Our most-requested topic is now Internet Safety... and it’s not difficult to see why 🫣

Everything’s gone digital – from friendships, free time and food deliveries, to homework, hobbies and even happiness. Children’s lives revolve around screens, and while this opens up many possibilities, it also allows easy access to the most harmful content imaginable 😣

We really wanted to help schools with this. So we've put together a new series of lessons and assemblies. A total of 64 classes in five schools are taking part this year... that means 1,695 pupils aged 7-18 are benefiting from regular visits from our team 📲

We’re already seeing pupils change how they interact online. We hope this series will help many more as we continue the series in the new year. Here are some photos, stats and staff feedback from the series so far 🙏🏻

We’ve just wrapped up a week of assemblies at BRGS as part of our HEART + MIND schools tour.

In this week's assemblies we've dipped into the world of behavioural psychology!

🐀We discovered how research on lab rats inspired the design of addictive games like slot machines — and how social media platforms use the same principles to keep us hooked (and make lots of money from our attention).

🧠We unpacked the latest findings that show how this impacts our ability to focus, concentrate and remember. We talked about the importance of sleep and real-life social interaction, which are both negatively affected when we can't stop scrolling.

💥Finally, we learned that it's possible to create new habits - especially when we have help from our friends - and how the best time to lock in new behaviour patterns and re-train the brain is during adolescence.

We can't wait to follow this up when we start Part 2 of our series after half term!!

It's hard to believe we’ve been working with St Christopher’s CE High School for almost 20 years! As part of their Sixth Form Spirituality Day last Wednesday, Nathan led 10 x 25-minute sessions exploring the theme of ‘Hopeful Prayer’. Where does hope come from? Is it just another word for wishful thinking? Or is it possible to pray with confidence, and even certainty? A brilliant day of games, quickfire discussions and opportunities to pray🙏💥

🚀 It’s happening!

Over the last 12 months we've been developing a brand new series for schools called HEART + MIND 💙💭

We've had expert advice from young people at VISION and hundreds of school pupils who've helped us make our most engaging and interactive content ever!!

We launched last week and have spent 5 days in school already! So far, 360 children aged 7-11 have part in the first session where we learn that not everything we see online is real, and not everyone is telling the truth. We had a lot of fun spotting all the fakes/scams, and learnt how to PAUSE when something doesn't feel right. In CofE schools, we also remembered that the Bible says we can pray for God's peace to guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-7).

Next, we're moving onto secondary schools where we'll work with 900 students aged 11-16 in October... then we'll start all over again after half-term for Part 2.

In total, more than 1,500 pupils will benefit from regular lessons and assemblies on this topic throughout the year... and in the summer term, pupils aged 9-11 will also have the opportunity to come on a school trip to VISION!
