Families with children can still foster 💭

As we celebrate we’re reminding anyone thinking about fostering that having children of your own needn’t be a barrier to opening up your home to a fostered child.

Foster carers’ own children have a special part to play in fostering: sharing their home, their parents, the special times and the everyday family moments which help someone new to settle and feel they belong.

But as well as all the benefits family life brings to a fostered child, your own children will benefit, too, by making new friendships and sharing experiences that can help them see life from a different perspective.

Fostering North East manager, John says, “Growing up in a fostering family can help children develop empathy, kindness and skills that will stay with them throughout their lives. And throughout your fostering journey, families are never alone. Our friendly team is there to offer professional support and guidance to the whole family, including your own children, as you experience fostering together. If you feel your family has room to grow, we’ll be there to support you every step of the way.”
