Our Northern Futures cohort recently took part in a Lite Bite work experience session at the Maldron Hotel Newcastle.

The visit included a presentation from one of the staff members on careers in hospitality, a behind-the-scenes hotel tour, and a demonstration of the hotel's room service robot 🤖

The session finished with pizza and refreshments, giving participants the chance to chat with staff and learn more about opportunities in the sector.

Experiences like this help young people build confidence, develop workplace awareness, and explore future career pathways.

☕ Last week, participants from Northern Futures visited The Book Club in Newcastle, for a behind-the-scenes look at life in the hospitality industry.

The group enjoyed a tour of the café, met with staff, and learned about the day-to-day responsibilities of working in a café environment. They also explored career opportunities within hospitality and gained valuable insights into the skills and experience needed to succeed in the sector.

A huge thank you to the team for taking the time to share their knowledge and experiences with our young people! 🙌

Are you 18-24 with a health condition, living in the North East region, and currently out of work? Northern Futures is a personalised programme ran by Groundwork NE & Cumbria and funded from North East Mayoral Strategic Authority to build skills, confidence, and kickstart your career.

This includes you if you live in:
Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland, County Durham, or Northumberland.

Funded by the Youth Guarantee Trailblazer, we offer a voluntary, tailored programme to help you move forward. You'll get:
✅ 1:1 Support for debt, benefits, housing, and wellbeing.
✅ Volunteering Opportunities and CSCS training.
✅ Valuable Work Experience with local employers.

This is for you if you are:
• Aged 18-24
• Living in the NECA region (listed above)
• Currently out of work
• Facing a mental or physical health condition

Last week, the Northern Futures cohort visited Willmott Dixon on site in Durham to explore careers in construction 🏗️

We heard from a team member about the different roles involved in delivering construction projects, the skills needed to succeed. As well as the company’s focus on social impact, community benefits, and upcoming developments across the UK.

After receiving full PPE, the group toured the live site and saw construction work in progress, gaining a real insight into how large-scale projects are delivered from start to finish.

A big thank you to the team for their time, support, and ongoing commitment to helping young people move closer to employment.
