Food Newcastle We’re a non-profit network of organisations demanding a healthier and more sustainable food culture in Newcastle upon Tyne

Food Newcastle is a non-profit network of organisations and individuals demanding a healthier and more sustainable food culture in Newcastle upon Tyne. By joining forces with our partner organisations, we are creating a movement that demands . We hope that by connecting and informing likeminded organisations and individuals, we can inspire others to take action to create a healthier food culture in Newcastle upon Tyne. As members of the Sustainable Food Places Network, we established a local Newcastle network, produced the Newcastle Food Charter and the Good Food Plan, and achieved the Sustainable Food Places Bronze Award. The Network is made up of a broad and open stakeholder group which includes anyone with a remit or interest in food, whether in promoting healthy eating, cooking skills, food production, retail, consumption or waste. Stakeholders come together at events and activities to discuss the progress and future of the network and members are invited to contribute to the relevant sub-groups.

Thank you BBC Newcastle for having us on to talk about the Fairtrade Trail taking place in Newcastle over the next two weeks.

Carlos, Co-ordinator of Food Newcastle, joined Jennifer Curry, CEO of Dance City (The Seven Bridges - a participating Fairtrade Trail venue) and BBC Radio Newcastle Presenter, Anna Foster, to discuss what Fairtrade means, where our food comes from and how the Fairtrade Trail works.

Jennifer said: "Seven Bridges cafe is a collaboration between Dance City and WERS West End Refugee Service. We really felt an affinity with the Fairtrade Trail, because it really connects with our values of connection, community and fairness."

The Seven Bridges cafe delivers hands on training and development for refugees and asylum seekers, working with them over a six-week volunteer program which helps to build skills, confidence and experience, building bridges to employment and stability.

Discover something new, support local businesses, get inspired and champion fairness. Over the next two weeks, you can explore a variety of places like The Seven Bridges across Newcastle's first ever Fairtrade Trail, hosted by Shared Interest, Food Newcastle and Newcastle City Council's Newcastle Fairtrade Partnership.
