Why speak at True Crime Forum Newcastle?

Because this isn’t a stage for polished PR talks.

The Forum is built around workshops and conversations where people can share the real work they do, the complexities, the challenges, and the perspectives that don’t always make it into headlines.

We’re interested in honest insight.
In depth.
In people who are willing to talk about the realities of the field they work in.

Our speakers include practitioners, academics, advocates and people with lived experience, each bringing their own expertise into the room.

If you have knowledge, experience or a perspective that could add something meaningful to these conversations, we’d love to hear from you.

The programme for 2026 is currently taking shape, and we’re always open to hearing from people who feel they have something valuable to contribute.

If you're interested, comment below or email [email protected]

Why come to a True Crime Collective event?

Because sometimes you want more than a headline or a quick podcast episode.

Our events are spaces where people can slow down and actually talk about crime and justice with a bit more depth. They’re for people who are curious, who ask questions, and who enjoy hearing directly from the people working in this field.

You might come to learn something new.You might come because you care about the issues behind the stories.
Or you might simply come because you enjoy being in a room with people who share that curiosity.

Conversations can continue long after the event itself, over a drink, around a table, or on the walk home.

And that’s really what True Crime Collective is about.

Bringing different worlds into the same room

One of the things that sits at the heart of True Crime Collective is connection.

Crime and justice are talked about in lots of different spaces, in universities, in courtrooms, in newsrooms, in community groups, but those worlds don’t always cross over in meaningful ways.

We bring them together.

At our events you’ll often find academics sitting next to practitioners, students talking with people who have lived experience, journalists sharing perspectives with advocates and researchers.

When those conversations happen in the same room, something interesting starts to happen.

People ask different questions.
Perspectives shift.
Nuance appears where it might otherwise get lost.

True Crime Collective exists to help create those moments where different experiences, disciplines and viewpoints can meet and actually talk to one another.

Follow to keep updated on future events, and if there’s someone you think we should invite or a topic you’d love us to explore, tell us in the comments.

True Crime Collective runs all year round

The Forum is one day in the calendar.
True Crime Collective is the space around it.

Throughout the year we run smaller events that bring people together to talk about crime and justice in thoughtful, open ways.

Workshops.Talks.Discussion evenings.
Collaborations with people working across the field.

Some events are practical, some are reflective, some are simply spaces for people to sit together and talk about the issues they care about.

What ties them together is the community around them.

True Crime Collective is about building something that lasts beyond a single event, a place where people can keep learning, sharing perspectives, and meeting others who care about these conversations just as much as they do.

Follow along if you want to hear about future events with True Crime Collective.

Supporting True Crime Forum Newcastle 2026

As the 2026 programme starts to take shape, we’re beginning conversations with organisations who may be interested in supporting the Forum.

True Crime Forum Newcastle brings together practitioners, educators, researchers, advocates and members of the public for a full day of workshops and discussions about crime and justice.

It’s a space built around curiosity, thoughtful conversation and community.

Behind the scenes, events like this come with very real costs - venue hire, speaker travel, accommodation and the countless hours that go into making sure the day runs well for everyone involved.

That’s where sponsorship can make a meaningful difference.

We’re particularly interested in working with organisations who value community engagement, responsible conversations around crime, and supporting spaces where people can learn from the experts working in this field.

If that sounds like something your organisation might want to be part of, I’d love to have a conversation.

Why We Centre Lived Experience

One thing that really matters to me within True Crime Collective is how we handle lived experience.

When someone shares their own experience, whether that’s as a survivor, a family member, someone who has worked within the system, or someone directly impacted by crime - that’s not content. That’s trust.
And trust has to be handled properly.

For us, centring lived experience isn’t about shock value or dramatic storytelling.
It’s about insight.
It’s about allowing people to speak in their own words, at their own pace, in a space that feels safe and supported.

It also means preparing properly. Checking in. Making sure people are comfortable. Making sure the room understands what’s being shared.

There’s a real difference between giving someone a platform and putting someone on display.

We care about the first. Always.

And when it’s done well, lived experience adds depth that no textbook or documentary ever could. It grounds conversations. It reminds us that these aren’t abstract issues, they’re real lives.

That’s something I take seriously. And it’s something we’ll continue to build carefully.

Who Comes to the Forum?

One of my favourite things about True Crime Forum Newcastle is the room itself.

Over the years, the true crime community has surprised me in the best possible way. It’s one of the most supportive, thoughtful groups of people I’ve come across.

The audience isn’t one “type” of person.

We’ve had students sitting next to retired professionals. Lecturers chatting to frontline practitioners. People who work in the justice system alongside people who just care deeply and want to understand more.

It’s mixed, age, background, profession, perspective. We see LGBTQ+ attendees, neurodivergent attendees, men and women equally invested in the conversations. It’s not a niche room and it’s not one-dimensional.

What stands out to me most is how intelligent and respectful everyone is. People ask good questions. They listen. They engage. They stay behind afterwards to carry conversations on.

It doesn’t feel like a crowd. It feels like a group of people who are genuinely pleased to be there together.

And that, more than anything, is what makes the day work.

People often ask how they can support what we’re building with True Crime Collective.

The honest answer? Community.

We run events, workshops, discussion groups and the Forum because we genuinely care about creating spaces where people can come together to talk about crime and justice in a thoughtful, welcoming environment. But behind the scenes, there are real costs - venue hire, speaker travel, accessibility needs, admin, planning, and the countless hours that go into making sure everything runs smoothly.

That’s where our Patreon comes in.

If you’d like to support The Collective and help keep these spaces running, you can join us here:

Your support goes directly towards:

- Funding events throughout the year
- Covering essential running costs
- Supporting speaker expenses
- Keeping community spaces accessible
- Developing future programming

And it’s not just a donation, it’s a membership.

Patreon members receive perks including discounts on future events, early access where possible, and reductions on merchandise. More importantly, you become part of the core group helping to shape and sustain this community.

If you plan to attend events, join discussions, or simply believe in what we’re building, it’s a brilliant way to be involved more deeply.

This Collective exists because people show up in person and behind the scenes.

If you’d like to be part of that foundation, we’d love to have you.
