Earlier this week, our Palestinian team in Gaza distributed fresh vegetables, fruit and chicken to displaced families in Arafat Camp, North Gaza.
As the bombardment, siege and atrocities against the people of Gaza continue, families are still being forced to fight for the most basic necessities — including food.
That morning, airstrikes and a security alert meant our Field Coordinator Omneya and the team had to stop, assess the risk and wait. As soon as it was possible to continue, they did.
Because families were waiting.
Arafat Camp is home to 310 families — 1,547 people — many displaced multiple times. Families told our team they are surviving on just one or two meals a day, with portions cut by 60–70%, and fresh food and protein increasingly out of reach.
Among those living there are pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, older people, people with injuries and people with disabilities — many of whom are also the least able to reach larger food distributions safely.
That is why fresh food matters.
