📽️ You’ll never walk alone: Why we keep
showing up.

Dear friends,
Watch the short film below with Ruhi, Musa, Triana and the RBB team — and discover what it means to keep showing up. We all know what it means to show we care in times of crisis. To sit with someone. To listen. To say, “I’m with you.” These small but important acts remind us that life doesn’t have to be faced alone.
Today is World Humanitarian Day. Originally established to highlight the work done around the globe in supporting people affected by conflict and disasters, this special day is also a time to reflect on what it means to stand alongside others. That’s why we want to share our film with you. It’s a reminder that solidarity means staying, listening and walking side by side with people, even when the world’s attention has moved on.

For RBB, this is what accompaniment looks like. On the Greek island of Chios, we are still here 10 years on, working alongside displaced communities. We also continue to support people affected by war in Gaza, and alongside Sudanese, Somali, Palestinian and other displaced communities in Cairo. The most important thing you can do for another person isn’t to rescue them. It is to keep walking beside them — and to refuse to leave them alone. Will you stand with us? RBB is a small grassroots organisation. Continuing this work depends on people choosing to be part of it.

A couple of days ago, we had the honour of being invited by our dear brother, Smajo Bešo OBE, to visit From Bosnia to Tyneside at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The exhibition shares the deeply personal story of Smajo and his family: their escape from the war in Bosnia, their arrival in Newcastle to seek sanctuary, and the life they rebuilt here on Tyneside. Through film, family photographs and personal belongings, it brings history to life through one family’s experiences.

Smajo was just nine years old when he was forced to flee Bosnia. Today, he is a genocide educator, doctoral researcher and the founder of the Bosnian Genocide Educational Trust, using survivor testimony and education to challenge hatred, encourage remembrance and help future generations understand where prejudice can lead.

As an organisation working alongside displaced communities, this visit was a powerful reminder that behind every refugee and displaced person is a human being with a name, a family, a history and hopes for the future.

Thank you, dear brother Smajo, for welcoming us and for sharing your family’s story with such courage, dignity and compassion.

📦🥫🧡Yesterday, you watched our team shop for food in North Gaza.

Today, because of your kindness, 275 families have food.

That’s around 1,375 people who won’t have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

🔹Families who have lost their homes.
🔸Families living in tents.
🔹Families who have been displaced again and again.
🔸Families who have already lost almost everything.

When we asked our local team what should go into these food parcels, they didn’t choose the cheapest items.

After speaking to people there, they chose the foods families miss the most.

Not just rice and pasta, but feta cheese, tahini, honey, tuna, mushrooms, fava beans, ghee, tomato paste, biscuits and other essentials. Foods that provide protein, healthy fats and proper nutrition. Foods that have become almost impossible for most families to buy.

Because surviving shouldn’t mean living on the same bowl of rice every day.

These parcels mean parents can cook for their children themselves. They don’t have to spend hours waiting in queues, hoping there will still be food left. They can prepare a meal together, inside their tent, with a little dignity restored.

➡️This is why we do what we do.

➡️This distribution reached one camp.

➡️Two more camps are still waiting.

We know the need feels overwhelming.

But yesterday, 275 families were waiting.

Today, they have food.

Tomorrow, with your help, it could be another 275.

🤲🏾🚛 Everything has been taken away. Almost every road is blocked. But we aren’t giving up.

Today, our team in North Gaza went shopping, loaded essential supplies into a van, and hand-packed 275 family-sized food parcels in a make-shift warehouse, ready for distribution in one of the camps in North Gaza.

Despite the immense challenges, our local team continues to find ways to reach families who have been cut off from food, support and the most basic necessities.

As our colleague Omneya shared from the ground, families are facing impossible choices every day. Food is scarce, prices remain devastatingly high, and many parents are going hungry so their children can eat. Yet, in the face of unimaginable hardship, our team continues to work tirelessly because giving up is simply not an option.

Tomorrow, these 275 food parcels will begin reaching families who urgently need them.

This is only the beginning.

Over the coming weeks, we are hoping to reach another 700 families, but we urgently need your support to make this possible.
