Workie Ticket attended the North Tyneside Cancer Prevention Network meeting today, where Ashlea performed a reading of The C Card to a room full of healthcare professionals, practitioners, and cancer prevention experts.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees commenting on how authentic and relatable the play feels, and how theatre can be a powerful tool for connecting communities, encouraging conversations, and helping women talk openly about cancer, screening, and healthcare experiences.

As part of this project, we will be delivering two creative workshops combining theatre, discussion, and storytelling to explore women's experiences of cancer, screening, and access to healthcare. Participants are invited to share their perspectives and help shape future awareness-raising work through conversation and creativity.

It was fascinating to hear from practitioners across health, screening, social prescribing, and public health about the work taking place across North Tyneside to improve cancer prevention and early diagnosis.

A huge thank you to the North Tyneside Cancer Prevention Network for inviting us to share the project, and especially to Claire Howard and Holly Wilson for their support and encouragement.

We also have some really exciting news about this project coming soon... watch this space! đź‘€

We all had an amazing time today recording our podcast plays and interviews for the Theatre of the Survivor podcast.

A huge thank you to all the creatives who worked so hard to make this happen. Claire for hosting and interviewing us all, Corinne for directing, Meena, Ashlea and Maryam for bringing the stories to life, and Maryam & JoJo for writing such beautiful and powerful plays. Ko-Le for recording all of our plays and interviews. Fisa for interviewing our professionals!

Thank you also to Kirsten for creating such a moving song inspired by the survivor forum, and to everyone who has contributed their time, talent and passion to this project.

Most importantly, thank you to the women and girls who have trusted us with their stories, experiences and creativity. It is a privilege to help create a platform where voices can be heard, believed and celebrated.

Today was a reminder of why Theatre of the Survivor matters so much – creating space for women to be heard, empowered and connected through creativity, while challenging stigma and raising awareness of the realities faced by survivors.

We can't wait to share these powerful plays, songs and interviews with you all soon. 🎙️ Next step....editing, designing and platforming...

Theatre of the Survivor Update ♥️

Yesterday, Workie Ticket spent the day in Sunderland with Al-Falaq and the Southmoor Academy girls' group, sharing back the powerful stories they have helped to create as part of Theatre of the Survivor: The Podcast.

We were incredibly excited to hear the first read-throughs of the audio plays, inspired by the experiences, voices and ideas of the women and girls involved.

✨ Beche Thaka has been written by Maryam Ali in collaboration with Al-Falaq. Maryam will also perform in the piece, alongside a cameo from the amazing Bushra Rahman from Al-Falaq, helping to bring this powerful story to life. (Have a little listen!)

✨ was written by JoJo Kirtley in collaboration with the Southmoor Academy girls' group. The audio play will be brought to life by the talented Meena and Ashlea , who will perform the characters created through the group's storytelling and ideas.

Hearing these stories spoken aloud was a special moment and a reminder of why this work matters. These productions are rooted in lived experience, resilience and survival, and we cannot wait to continue the journey towards recording.

Next week, we'll be recording the audio plays at with our wonderful director Corinne Kilvington , alongside wor Ko-Le Chen & host Claire Rodgerson We can't wait to share them and our song with you.

A huge thank you to everyone who has shared their stories, ideas and creativity with us so far. Your voices are at the heart of this project. 🤍

Today we were at the lovely Arts Centre Washington and what an amazing day of creating, singing, laughing, sharing stories and really listening to one another as we brought Al-Falaq Counselling and WWIN Specialist Domestic Abuse Services Women together to create a song for Poppy.

Singer-songwriter, Kirsten Hall taught us the chorus of the most incredible song she has co-created with WWIN. We were joined by the talented Hati, who supported Kirsten, and Jaydean from Public Health… who ended up singing too! 🎶 Can't wait to share! 🖤

Shout out to Amanda, from Wearside Women's Survivor group who was brave enough to take on some spoken word to be featured in the song. And the one and only, Bushra from Al-Falaq will also be starring in one of our audioplays.

We spent time talking through the structure of the podcast, sharing our other characters -Diamond by girls group and Tara by Al-Falaq. Plus Claire, our Mackem podcast host, visited with baby Arlo!

The room was absolutely buzzing with excitement, creativity and connection. Days like this remind us why this work matters so much. Next up, we will be sharing our play with the groups in June and then our recordings of the podcast and plays. 🩷🤟🏼

We’re so happy to announce that we’ve received funding from the Sir James Knott Trust to support our Theatre of the Survivor work - this time working across North Tyneside.

This generous support will make such a difference, helping us continue creating safe, creative spaces for women and survivors whose voices are too often unheard. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust and belief in our work and can’t wait to get started.

Thank you so much to the Sir James Knott Trust for supporting theatre for social change and helping us reach more women in our communities!

Today, Workie Ticket Theatre met with North Tyneside Public Health, Northern Cancer Alliance and Healthwatch North Tyneside for a reading of The C Card as part of the development of our cancer awareness project.

The session gave us a valuable opportunity to share the work, gain professional insight and have important conversations around how theatre and creative workshops can support awareness, early conversations and community engagement around cancer.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, listened and contributed their thoughts and feedback.

Special mention to Ashlea, who delivered such a beautiful and powerful reading. The room was completely mesmerised by her performance, and you could feel the emotional impact the story had on everyone present. The play was written by JoJo Kirtley & will be directed by Viv Wiggins.

These conversations are helping us shape the project with care, honesty and authenticity, and we’re incredibly excited about what’s to come next for the project.
