There will be three orchard sessions during May, on Sunday the 3rd, 17th and 31st from 2-4 pm. Everyone is welcome, including accompanied children.

Jobs for this month will include clearing the ground around the trees, cutting the willow, mowing paths through the grass, ongoing work on the apple storage shed, and work on the wildflower areas.

The orchard is looking great with the trees in blossom, so now is a good time to come and join in.

At tomorrow's session, Sunday 22nd March 2-4pm, we'll be preparing ground and sowing wildflower seeds, doing groundwork around the entrance to the apple storage shed, clearing ground around tree bases and pruning the fruit trees. We'll also be looking out for more wildflowers and wildlife to add to our ongoing biodiversity surveys. Everyone is welcome, including accompanied children.

At our first (damp and chilly) work session of 2026 volunteers raked out a strip of ground in the wildflower meadow so that seeds could be sown and stamped in. We’ve got lots more ground to prepare and seeds to sow so why not come along and help. It’s hard work maintaining a wildflower meadow but the results that we see in the spring and summer are definitely worth the effort.

Our new apple store is doing a great job of preserving the last of the crop and nearly 80 kgs of apples were sorted for donation to the Miners Lamp Community Café and for sale to local restaurants.

The next session is on Sunday January 25th, 1-3pm. Everyone is welcome, including accompanied children.

Our new 'cool' storage shed ( in every sense of the word ) is up, running AND working..it keeps the apples at least 4 weeks longer than would otherwise be the case. We'll keep eyes on it, learn more and then start to spread the word.
