🔥 Cooking on the Fire – Alumni Workshop
For anyone with Forest School training or currently training with us.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone who’s already booked onto our October Alumni workshop — it’s shaping up to be a really lovely session. If you haven’t grabbed a place yet, there’s still plenty of time.

This workshop is all about outdoor cooking: managing heat, cooking on griddles and embers, using the Dutch oven, and keeping food safe outdoors. A practical, confidence‑building two hours with space to try things out and share ideas. A nice bit of CPD for your Forest School practice too.

📅 Thursday 8th October
⏰ 4–6pm
📍 Scotswood Garden, NE15 6TU
💷 £30 if trained with Scotswood Garden / £40 if not

🌿 From April to August — what a change

These new planters were planted up by our volunteers back in April, and it’s been brilliant watching them fill out through the summer. Today’s photo shows just how much they’ve grown — colour, height, texture, all coming together.

Another amazing effort from our volunteers🌼

How are your plants growing at the moment?

🍏 All sorts of apples go into our Sticky Business apple juice
Our orchard is full of different varieties — Bramley, Discovery, Howgate Wonder, Laxton’s Superb, Egremont Russet and Lord Derby — and every batch is pressed from whatever’s ready for picking, whatever our trees are offering that week.

Our apples aren’t sprayed, and the trees are nurtured in the most sustainable way we can — mulched, compost-fed, and cared for with wildlife in mind. Every bottle is a little taste of the garden.

🔥 Cooking on the Fire – Alumni Workshop
For anyone with Forest School training or currently training with us.

Hope you’re all having a lovely summer. We’re excited to share our next Alumni workshop, which takes a deeper look at outdoor cooking — the part that comes after the fire is lit. We’ll explore heat control, cooking on griddles and embers, Dutch oven techniques, and good outdoor food hygiene, with plenty of hands‑on practice.

It’s a great chance to reconnect with other Forest School practitioners, share ideas, and catch up with your tutors.

🌿 Making Space for Growth in the Forest Garden

A huge thank‑you to our volunteers who’ve been out in the Forest Garden this week, clearing back the weeds so our Forest Garden plants have room to thrive. Even with the cardboard mulch you all kindly donated earlier in the year — which has made a big difference — there are always a few determined weeds that sneak through.🌱

As always, our volunteers have been amazing💚
