We're looking for spare plants to support our propagation workshops and volunteer training sessions.

If you're doing a bit of autumn tidying, lifting or dividing plants in your garden, we'd be delighted to give any healthy spare divisions a new home.

We're particularly interested in:

🍃Wreath Making Workshop bookings and Kit preorders opening next week!

Join us at Scotswood Garden this November for a relaxed evening creating a beautiful natural wreath from seasonal foliage, or order a kit to enjoy making one at home.

✨ All materials are biodegradable or fully reusable
✨ No experience necessary!
✨ A fun, creative and festive activity to do with us or friends

WREATH MAKING WORKSHOP
Friday 27th November, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Scotswood Garden
£50 per person
Our friendly staff will guide you through the process in our lovely new indoor space. You'll also be able to pick some foliage directly from our beautiful garden.
Refreshments included.

Collection from Scotswood Garden or local delivery available (£4)
Preorder your kits for collection or delivery from Wednesday 25th November. Instructions and video link included. Great for making your own wreath, as a gift or for a wreath making get together with friends or family.

From Knots to Winches: Nightshades

Thank you to and for welcoming our Nightshades Rangers youth group aboard James Cook and giving us a taster of what a sailing voyage would be like.

We learned knots, all about parts of the vessel, how to throw mooring lines (and hit the captain 🫣 😳), took turns piloting the rib, and that jacket potato and beans is the best lunch for strong arms to wind the winches! Happy days💚

🌿 A Day in the Life of Scotswood Garden 🌿

When people think of Scotswood Garden, they might picture our gardens, wildlife or green spaces. But every day is packed with activities that bring people of all ages together to learn, create, connect and enjoy the outdoors. Here's just a snapshot of what happened today!

Our amazing volunteers were busy clearing and tidying the area near the entrance, as well as helping to move a very heavy delivery of clay for the Education team. 💪

Our Cultivating Solidarity team welcomed children from Bridgewater School for a workshop exploring how we can help new children feel welcome in school communities.

We also hosted St Bede's Primary for a hedgehog hibernation workshop, while young people from Excelsior made pancakes on the fire, and even a gluten free option for the very happy teacher! 🔥🦔

Our older women's, Late Bloomers, group got creative decorating tiny pumpkins, and collecting some materials for wreath making. Over at Sticky Business, staff were busy making some gorgeous Plum and Cinnamon jam.

Meanwhile, our CEO gave a tour of the garden to engineering students from Northumbria University, who have been given the challenge of redesigning the back yard space.

And that's not even everything. Our Adventure Ranger youth group will be here too later on, making the most of the garden, learning new skills, and spending time outdoors.

From education and volunteering to wellbeing, food, creativity and community, every day at Scotswood Garden is different, but it's always full of people learning, growing and connecting. 💚

🔥 FSA Conference - Embers: The Power of Play 2026
Some of our Education team had a brilliant time at the Forest School Association’s annual conference this year — a weekend full of connection, creativity and inspiring conversations about the power of play.

Our experienced staff and volunteers led two workshops: How Forest School supports care experienced children to build relationships ;
and Nature Art & Sanctuary.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us — it was a joy to share practice, learn together and be part of such a thoughtful gathering.

🌿 A heartfelt thank you
We’d like to thank the lovely family of Dougie Sloane’s for their generous donation to the garden, in memory of the happy times Dougie spent here. We used their kind donation to fund free drinks at our Apple Day event.

Dougie's family said that the garden is a special place for all generations of their family and that Dougie would have been pleased to have being funding the drinks, as he was always very generous that way💚

Thank you to everyone who volunteered or attended Apple Day, making it a special event for everyone, including Dougie's family. A plaque was erected in the accessible garden in his memory.

A lovely reminder of how much life is tucked into our trees and shrubs.

Ladybirds are brilliant allies in the garden — their larvae can eat hundreds of aphids in just a few weeks. If you want to support them, leave some wild corners, long grass, nettles, shrubs and places to hide over winter.
