Well, that's a wrap on Prodana Nevesta, and the end of an era.

After 6 wonderful years of providing opera education in the North East Harlekin Studio Opera is closing.

We are so grateful to all who have supported us in our mission, and extremely proud of the many successes we have shared with our participants over the projects we've brought to the area.

It's only a few weeks until we bring Prodana Nevesta to Brunswick Methodist Church. (9/11/24)

Our accompanist is the esteemed Max McWhirter, graduate of Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and award winning pianist.

Max is the resident accompanist for Aria Alba in Edinburgh, and has worked with some world class singers during his studies in Glasgow.

This will be his second performance in Newcastle this season after a highly successful turn at the Grey St Gala earlier this month.

It's only a few weeks until we bring Prodana Nevesta to Brunswick Methodist Church. (9/11/24)

Our accompanist is the esteemed Max McWhirter, graduate of Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and award winning pianist.

Max is the resident accompanist for Aria Alba in Edinburgh, and has worked with some world class singers during his studies in Glasgow.

We're so excited to be bringing Prodana Nevesta to Brunswick Methodist Church (by the Monument) on Saturday 9th November at 2pm.

Our singers are all local to the Northeast, and will be accompanied on the piano by Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate Max McWhirter.

The performance is in our very best Czech language, but with some English narration to help the story.

Tickets are 'pay what you can' get them in advance from our website box office or just pop in on the day.

Introducing our founder and director, Jake.

Jake has worked as a voice teacher and conductor for more than ten years and has worked with artists from all over the world through opera projects in Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Since 2022 he has been the Artistic Director of where he is directing his tenth anniversary production for Edinburgh Fringe 2024.

Over the years Jake has performed a number of roles as a dramatic baritone including Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutte), Il Conte di Almaviva (Le nozze di figaro), Harlekin (Ariadne Auf Naxos), Rudolpho (Sonnambula) and more. In 2017 his debut performance in the role of Don Giovanni was found to be ‘consistently excellent’ by the press.

As a conductor and director Jake has produced a large number of operas from Semele to Pagliacci with Aria Alba, Three Bridges Festival and Harlekin Studio Opera.

Unlike many working in opera, Jake comes from a working class background and was very fortunate to have been supported in his cultural education by a number of generous teachers. He dedicates most of his time to charitable purposes and sharing the knowledge he has been gifted in his 25 years of vocal studies.

We are an open access opera company providing opportunities for the people of the North East to engage with opera as part of a vibrant and diverse community.

Some 80 miles North of we aspire to build a world class company focussed on developing the talent and culture in the local area into a flourishing opera scene for Newcastle-upon-tyne.

And while we can’t yet afford to hire the likes of Newcastle’s own historic opera house we’re doing the grass roots work to expand our company and lay the foundations for greater things to come.

Please support us by spreading the word and encouraging your friends and family to come along to one of our workshops or performances. We’re also very keen to hear from arts patrons who’d like to become subscribers and help our mission to transform lives through opera.
