We aim to guide and support medical students with an interest in a career in surgery! Join now! Membership is just £10 a year!!

This year our members have the chance to view autopsies, participate in practical skills such as suturing, and also hear about what a career in surgery involves from surgeons working in the North East. Not sure which surgical specialty is for you? Curious about what life as a surgeon actually looks like?

Join us for an evening of rapid-fire, 10–15 minute talks from surgeons across the North East, each giving you a glimpse into their specialty, their day-to-day work and the experiences that have shaped their careers.

From exploring different career paths to hearing the stories you won’t find in a textbook, this is your opportunity to discover where you might fit in the world of surgery.

Another year, and even more SurgSoc! I’ve loved being part of this society since I first joined, so I’m incredibly excited for what we have planned this year. To members old and new: expect all the SurgSoc staples you know and love, alongside plenty of new events, opportunities and ideas. Whether surgery has always been the plan or you’re just curious enough to give it a go, we hope this year gives you plenty of chances to explore it, get involved, and find what excites you!

In my role as anatomy and autopsy officer I am looking forward to welcoming members of the society to dissecting room sessions specifically focused on surgical anatomy delivered by surgeons. Hopefully this will build your confidence shadowing in theatre and expand your anatomical knowledge!

I’m really looking forward to being talks officer for this year. I hope to continue the good work that my predecessors have done, but also try and add a couple of different things that I feel would be useful to know. Exams are coming up, so we’re running a focused revision session to help you feel more confident with abdomen anatomy!

🔹 Hands-on revision using specimens and prosections
🔹 Surgeon-led dissection exploring pelvic anatomy, procedures, and surgical landmarks. You may be able to get involved
