Our Steward Helen Simmons recently popped over to Ringtons in Longbenton to collect a stack of unwanted hessian coffee sacks (and some tea and coffee too!) for our upcoming Get Crafty workshops in Shieldfield.
We'd like to offer our thanks to Guy Kingsley‑Smith, Chris Scott and the rest of the Ringtons team for their support in setting sacks aside. It's wonderful that something which would have gone to waste will upcycled thanks to the Dwellbeing community.
We’ll be using these sacks to make proggy mats, learning a new craft together and repurposing unwanted woollens in the process. We've had some generous advice from local artist and skilled local rug maker Ali Rhind who has helped us to shape this project. We'll be honoring a local craft tradition as we chat and create together.
If you’re curious about joining in, whether you’re a total beginner or someone who grew up with proggy mat making (also known as proddy, clippy, cleekie, clootie, stobby, poked, tab, broddy, bodged or peg rugs!) this is an invitation for you to join us. You're welcome to come and make or just stay for a Ringtons cuppa and chat. No previous experience or skills required.
Workshops start on 17th March , between 12.30-2.30 pm at the Forum Cafe. Keep an eye on our website for further details.
Community, craft, and a good brew — what more do you need? ☕🧵✨
