Through structured placements across our bustling farmyard, gardens and visitor centre, they interact with nature and the wider community, helping them to overcome low self-esteem, loneliness and achieve powerful, lasting change in their wellbeing.

From printing to rockpooling, it’s been a busy week for our Placement Programme! 💚

Our participants have been creating lovely prints, baking monster cupcakes and spending time with some of the Farm’s smaller animals.

We also headed to the seaside for a spot of rockpooling and seal spotting — a chance to explore beyond the Farm and see what wildlife we could find.

Plenty of opportunities to get creative, try something different and spend time together. Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to! 📸

Kevin has a new friend! Meet Bluebell. 🐰🐰

Bluebell is a young female lop who has come to us from . She's not been paired with another rabbit before, so we are currently in the process of bonding her and Kevin. This is a slow process and involves:

👃🏼 Scent swapping: each day, we swap items from each of their housing such as litter trays and toys so they get used to each other's scent.

🐇 Separate enclosures: in our outdoor space, we have set up two side-by-side pens with a wire barrier so they can see and smell each other without biting.

⏰️ Short sessions: we have started with brief 5-10 minute sessions observing them together, and will be gradually increasing the time as they stay calm.

Hopefully after a while, they will start to bond which we will see through mutual grooming, eating side-by-side, and relaxed body language. At this point we will be able to house them together, and they will be firm friends 🥹.

We'll keep you updated as their relationship blooms! 🌺

Thank you to everyone who had concerns about Kevin's housing situation after his recent theft. We wanted to reassure you that Kevin is now housed indoors, safe and sound.

For those who enjoyed seeing our recent Then/Now photos, we thought you'd like to hear Jon and Jean's story.

Jon Davies was a Councillor at in 1976 and was one of the first people to set the farm up from scratch, much to the amusement of his colleagues!

With help from his wife Jean and his kids, as well as other local families and volunteers, they started the farm; slowly and steadily, planting the seeds that helped it grow into what it is today.

Thanks so much to Jon and Jean for coming to see us, we've loved hearing your stories! They remind us why we want keep the farm free-to-all for the next 50 years.

Join us for Little Sprouts, a free six-week outdoor gardening and nature club for kids aged 0-4.

These six sessions will follow the forest school ethos of giving children (and their grownups) the chance to play, explore and spend time outdoors in all weathers and seasons. We hope this will help to inspire little ones, develop their love for nature and increase their confidence and independence as they explore.

Each week we will spend time outdoors around the farm - in the nearby fields, woodlands, the orchard, and the farm's garden. We will find things in nature as we wander and observe the changes throughout the season. Sessions are not structured, they are child-led. We will have some optional crafts and play prompts that children are free to join in with if they like.

Each session will end with a story and a healthy farm-grown snack - this part might be in the classroom if it is very rainy!

We'll meet each week outside the aviary in the garden. Come dressed for the weather 🌦️.

📅 Monday 19th October - Monday 23rd November (6 sessions)
🕙️ 10am - 11.30am
📍 Ouseburn Farm
🎫 Free but you must book via our website: https://www.ouseburnfarm.org.uk/whats-on/

Please only sign up for this if you can commit to at least four of the dates in this block: 19th & 26th October and 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd November.
