A big shout out to our Young Workers Rep, Adam, who spoke twice at CWU Young Workers Conference, moving two motions on behalf of the branch, and the North East Region today.

Adam spoke first to move our branch motion to give workers the right to switch off from work outside of working hours.

He then moved a motion on behalf of all branches in the North East Region, which called for the union's National Executive Committee to develop a plan to engage young people before they start their working life, so as they are aware of what a trade union is and the things we get invovled in.

We're obviously very proud of Adam.

🔴 Show Racism the Red Card – Wear Red Day 🔴

Today, CWU Tyne & Wear Clerical Branch were out in force, with stalls at Darlington, Gosforth and North Tyneside, standing together against racism and promoting equality.

Anti-racism work has never been more important, especially at a time when some local North East councils are pulling funding from vital anti-racism initiatives.

We won’t stand by and allow anti-racism work to be pushed aside. Solidarity, education and action are key to building communities free from racism.

World Mental Health Day Oct. 10 is a global observance that highlights mental health as a universal human right and calls for action to ensure everyone can access quality care. It draws attention to the reality that one in eight people live with a mental health condition, often facing stigma, discrimination, and inadequate treatment. The day serves as a platform to raise awareness, confront systemic barriers, and promote inclusion, dignity, and community-based support worldwide.

Today Alison from your Host Team and Joanne from CWU will be available at GOSFORTH to support you with signposting to mental health support.

Whether you have good mental health and are looking to maintain that, if you are struggling right now and need some help or perhaps you want to know how to support someone else - we'll be there to help.

We invite you to visit our stall (opposite the pool table) and pull an inspirational quote from our jar of positivity. In return you might also win a small prize and everyone who stops by will have a free sweet treat.

We'd like to say a big thank you to North East MPs including Lola McEvoy - MP for Darlington and Andy McDonald MP for supporting CWU North West Region and the campaign to halt the closure of BT offices in Liverpool City Centre.

600 telecoms workers jobs are on the line with plans to cut some, while others will be asked to commute to Manchester and Leeds.

It goes without saying we send our absolute solidarity to our friends and colleagues on Merseyside.
