🌟 Powering Resilience in Hull ⚡
When the Lonsdale Community Centre dreamed of becoming a safe, warm hub during times of crisis, the Northern Powergrid Foundation stepped in to help make it happen.
Thanks to a £20,000 grant, the Centre has installed solar panels and energy storage batteries, cutting energy bills by 50% in the first month and creating a lifeline for the community. In an emergency, the system can keep essential services running for up to two days off-grid - providing food, warmth, and safety when it matters most.
Located in one of Hull’s most deprived areas, the Centre already offers a food bank, free meals, and a winter warm zone. Now, with lower costs and greater resilience, they can reinvest savings to feed more families and keep doors open longer.
This project isn’t just about energy - it’s about hope, security, and a stronger future for everyone.

Celebrating Volunteers Week 2026!

Over the past few years, we’ve had the privilege of assessing grants and working closely with amazing community groups and one thing has become so clear:
volunteers are the heart and soul of every organisation. ❤️

From community hubs and village halls to sports clubs and churches, so many of the spaces we rely on simply wouldn’t exist without them.

When we spoke to groups about how they celebrate their volunteers, we heard everything from parties and special events to cakes and pizzas 🍰🍕

But more importantly, we heard just how valued and appreciated volunteers truly are.

So today, we want to say a huge thank you to every volunteer, past and present, for your kindness, passion and dedication.

And if you’ve been thinking about giving your time…
✨ there’s no better moment to start.

Powering resilience in Lockington 💡
When storms hit and power cuts happen, having a safe place to turn can make all the difference.
In the small rural village of Lockington, the village hall has always been at the heart of community life. But during a 30-hour power cut in winter, it became something even more important, a lifeline. Residents came together to keep warm, charge devices, share updates, and support one another.
Now, thanks to a £20,000 grant from Northern Powergrid Foundation, the hall is being transformed into a resilient energy hub, with solar panels and battery storage to keep the lights on when the community needs it most.
This means:
✅ A safe, warm space during outages
✅ Support for vulnerable residents
✅ A place to stay connected and informed
✅ Lower energy costs to reinvest into the community
Projects like this help communities prepare, adapt and stay connected, whatever the future brings.

🌟 Powering Community Resilience at Chatton Village Hall ⚡
Thanks to a £20,000 grant from the Northern Powergrid Foundation, Chatton Village Hall has been transformed into a warmer, more energy‑efficient and resilient space at the heart of its rural community.
Serving over 500 residents across a widespread parish, the Hall is the only public meeting place in the area and plays a vital role in keeping people connected, supported and safe.
With new energy upgrades, the Hall can now:
⚡ Stay operational during power cuts with battery storage and a standby generator
🔥 Provide a warm, welcoming space all year round
💡 Reduce energy costs and improve long‑term sustainability
🏡 Support vulnerable residents during emergencies
The impact is already being felt, with more activities running throughout winter, improved accessibility for all ages, and a much more comfortable space for the whole community.
This project shows how investing in energy resilience can help rural communities thrive, whatever the weather. 💚

Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
This May, we’re celebrating the power of communities coming together to support one another.
Across our region, local organisations are creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect, share how they’re feeling, and find support when they need it most. These community spaces play such an important role in helping people feel less alone and more connected.
Through the Northern Powergrid Foundation, we’re proud to support groups that bring people together—whether that’s through community hubs, local activities, or spaces where people can simply sit, talk and feel at ease.
Because strong communities help build better wellbeing for everyone.
Let’s take a moment this month to recognise the people and places making a difference every day 💚

🌞 Powering Kilburn Village Institute towards a more sustainable future ⚡

We’re proud to have supported Kilburn Village Institute with a £13,051 grant, helping to install solar panels and battery storage.

As the only community meeting place for Kilburn and High Kilburn, the Institute plays a vital role in bringing people together and reducing isolation, particularly for older residents. Following a major refurbishment in 2023, this much-loved village hall is now an even more welcoming, accessible and well-used space for people of all ages.

Thanks to our support, the Institute has taken an important next step in securing its long-term future, installing a 10kW solar system and 14kWh battery storage to improve energy resilience and protect against rising electricity costs.

With lower running costs and greater energy independence, the hall can continue to act as a warm, resilient community hub, remaining open when it’s needed most, supporting everything from yoga classes and children’s clubs to parish meetings and festive celebrations.
