In May, we had a lovely wedding held in the Newcastle Hospice, see below for pictures and some special words from the newly-weds 👇💛

"16th May 2026- Our Wedding Day

Marie Curie made this day truly unforgettable

After Natalie received the devastating news of a terminal diagnosis, Michael and I knew that we didn't want to wait any longer to begin the next chapter of our lives together. We made the decision to marry, surrounded by the love and support of our closest family.

Our wedding was held at Marie Curie, and from the moment plans began, the staff did everything possible to make our special day a reality. Their kindness, compassion, and dedication went far beyond anything we could ever have expected.

Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, from the chairs and beautiful flowers to the balloons and the wonderful buffet. The room was transformed into a warm and joyful space where we could celebrate our love and create precious memories with those closest to us.

A special mention must go to Katie, the chaplain, who led a beautiful and heartfelt wedding service. Her warmth, understanding, and genuine care made the ceremony incredibly personal and meaningful. With only close family present, it was an intimate and emotional occasion that we will treasure forever.

What could have been a difficult time in our lives was turned into a day filled with love, laughter, happiness and cherished memories. We cannot thank everyone at Marie Curie enough for going above and beyond to give us the wedding day we had always dreamed of.

It was a day we will never forget.

With heartfelt thanks,
Natalie and Michael"

People have told us that the following things have helped them:
🚶getting out for a walk in the morning or evening
☕ leaving the house, even if it's just to go for a coffee
🎨doing something creative, like colouring or drawing
🐈spending time with a pet or animal
🏡spending time in a place that feels comforting
🌳being in nature

💛Dementia Friends 💙

Earlier this month, some of the Newcastle Hospice staff (a few of which are pictured below) took part in a Dementia Friends session, held in the Wellbeing Centre by two representatives from Alzheimer's Society 💛

The session's key takeaways were:
1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing
2. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
3. Dementia is not just about losing your memory
4. There is more to the person than the dementia
5. A little understanding makes a big difference 💛

If you are concerned about yourself or someone you know, feel free to get in touch with Newcastle Dementia Support Service by phone, email or by visiting their website 💙💛
