‘Lets talk about S*x’ – manager’s role in supporting staff in difficult conversations
In our session with managers at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council today we talked about how easy it is for people talk about s*x when we are having ‘banter’ or telling jokes in the pub but it can be excruciating to discuss in a serious context such as reporting s*xual abuse or harassment in the workplace. We can’t find the right word, we might feel judged or embarrassed. This is where trust and openness are key to the manager’s role and their relationship with staff. Making it easier to open dialogue on difficult subjects. In some instances, writing issues down first can be a real help.

We are keen on reaching out to smaller orgs/freelancers to offer accessible, affordable (or free!) training to keep you and your participants safe in your space. Eg, guidance on risk assessment for the spaces you work in, s*xual harassment or dealing with a predator. First step tho - is asking you 'What training/advice do you need & how can we help'. Our Leisure & Sport members have done an amazing job moving their face to face classes and sessions on line. It's been terrific for us too - we've been joining in on all kinds of , and sessions in our kitchens! There is a serious side too in terms of keeping safe online for participants and instructors alike.
