We’re delighted to have secured additional funding that will allow us to improve the energy efficiency of many of our homes at Tyne Housing!

We’re proud to have successfully hit our targets for phase one delivery of the UK Government’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund, which has unlocked further funding from Tees Valley Combined Authority to extend the reach and impact of our work.

Our residents deserve high-quality homes, that are warm and comfortable and – by improving energy efficiency with work carried out by Zenith – we are able to pass on direct utility costs savings to our residents and reinvest long term maintenance savings made into providing life-changing support that will help our residents and visitors get to a better place!

At Tyne Housing, we believe our residents’ voices should be at the heart of the work we do.

Yesterday, our residents came together to spend some focused time discussing their priorities, with communication at the heart of the conversation.

The group will be exploring:
-Improving our resident communications
-Introducing an annual meeting celebrating our residents’ work and bringing together peers, staff and stakeholders
-Developing an annual resident activity plan

It’s fantastic to see residents playing such an active role in shaping how we work and helping us make sure their voices continue to be heard.

A new creation from our Creative Wood Workshop!🦉

Tyne Housing’s Workshop Team have once again showcased their incredible craftsmanship with this striking Tawny Owl sculpture, beautifully capturing the character and natural form of this much-loved bird.

The sculpture is one of a number of pieces being created through our Growing Well Together Project, delivered in partnership with Ouseburn Trust and Wild Roots Community Garden - St Ann's Close & Ouseburn Valley, and funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund, Environmental Awards For All Fund.

We’re delighted that our partners at Northern Stage will be hosting and displaying the Owl in their exhibition space over the coming months.

Later this year, the Owl will take its place at the top of an intricately carved Totem Pole, which will be permanently sited in the Ouseburn Valley. The Totem will celebrate the Valley’s wildlife and natural habitat, with creatures representing everything from pondlife to the treetops.

And the Owl is just one part of the project! Our Workshop Team and Tyne residents are also creating Totems, carved benches, bee posts and planters, helping to bring creativity, nature and community together across the Valley.

We can’t wait to see the finished Totem take shape!

After more than 21 years with Tyne Housing, we recently said goodbye to one of our longest-standing residents, Irene, as she moved into her forever home.

With the support of Housing Support Worker, Claire, Irene was able to navigate a lengthy housing process and prepare for her move by sorting through years of treasured belongings.

Through patience, trust and compassion, Claire helped make what could have been an overwhelming experience a positive new beginning.

We're so proud to have been part of Irene's journey and wish her every happiness in her new home. 💙

A huge thank you to Claire for going above and beyond to make this life-changing move possible.

If you’re out and about this weekend, don’t miss out on a visit to the Novum Festival, a three-day takeover of creativity, entertainment and unexpected moments across Newcastle city centre – proudly featuring the work of Tyne visitors and residents.

Artist Chris Folwell came in and spent time with our visitors and residents, holding art workshops called the 'Secret Parade', where they made medieval-style ceramic pieces that were then fired in the kiln before making their way onto Tyneside’s streets as part of Novum.

People can then go on trails finding the sculptures, something our talented group will experience themselves as they take part in a wellbeing walk to see their masterpieces in-situ this weekend.

Enjoy Novum and look out for the fantastic pieces our residents and visitors have made – we’re immensely proud that they’ll be featured, bringing colour and creativity to the streets of the city.

Today is International Day of Friendship. 🤝

We know that forming connections and making friends can make an enormous difference to people’s sense of wellbeing. That’s why our Men’s Health Hub, a voluntary wellbeing session and activity group which meets every fortnight, is such an important part of our service.

Backed by The National Lottery Community Fund, it not only provides a trusted and confidential space to open up, talk, and obtain guidance and support, but also enables trained staff and volunteers, many of whom have lived through similar experiences, circumstances and emotions, to offer first-hand advice, understanding, hope and proof that things can get better.

We’re proud to have created a strong community of residents and visitors who help each other on their journey to a better future.

The Tyne team has once again hit the streets of Byker!

Having organised a hugely successful street clean-up in June, where we were joined by 42 people – 12 Tyne residents, 7 Joseph Cowen visitors, 2 volunteers, 13 Tyne staff and 8 partners – we have once again done our bit to improve our local environment.

Last time, we collected 24 bin bags of rubbish - a real partnership effort! This time, we were able to fill 14 more bags with litter that was blighting the streets in a community we love. We’re proud to be doing our bit to make Byker even better.

Lots of people have supported us to make both clean ups a success! Thanks to NTaR, Newcastle Stop Smoking + Service, EPiC, Newcastle City Council, CleanupUK and RSDAT.

That’s why we have been working on a new allotment project with Tyne residents and visitors, focusing on not only creating bountiful outdoor spaces, but building confidence, promoting teamwork, and developing the practical skills of all those who attend.

Calling all volunteers 📣

If you’re able to spare a little time to make a huge difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the North East, Tyne has some brilliant volunteering opportunities to share.

We’re on the look-out for an Activities Coach, a Green-fingered Wellbeing Coach and someone to help out in our Learning Kitchen.

So whether you’re a fitness fan, who can support Tyne residents and visitors to make a move to a healthier future; a lover of horticulture with the ability to nurture strong connections as well as plants; or if you have great culinary skills and could help share your wisdom with the people we support – we’d love to hear from you!

It's been just over two months since Prospect Place opened its doors, and - with a number of new residents now settling in and staff on-site 24/7 to support them - we’re working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to:

Residents have been sharing ideas for activities they'd like to take part in, with plans underway for everything from cooking sessions to employability support. Thanks to funding from the See Me North programme, they'll also have the opportunity to create artwork together on site: https://www.seemenorth.org/

Residents have been accessing support from our Emotional Resilience Team, helping them build confidence, develop positive coping strategies and connect with specialist mental health services where needed.

Two residents have taken the next step on their journey, moving from other shared Tyne Housing accommodation in Gateshead into our Progression Flats as they work towards independent living and employment.

Since opening, our team has delivered 31 support sessions and worked alongside residents to set 34 personalised goals, helping them overcome barriers and achieve meaningful progress.

In the past week alone, we've supported residents to access local health services and budgeting advice, providing practical support to help them move forward.

Our team has also been out in the local community, carrying out weekly litter picks to help keep the area clean and welcoming.

This is just the beginning, and we will continue to work alongside our residents, neighbours and partners to create positive opportunities and lasting change. Watch this space for more updates - we’ll also be sharing more about a community drop-in we will be hosting with other key partners coming soon.
