🏃‍♀️ Just 3 weeks to go until the Great North Run!

Last weekend, some of our fantastic runners took on the Town Moor Parkrun as they continue their preparations for the big day. Despite the grey skies and windy weather, spirits were high and the rain stayed away!

The countdown is officially on for Team FareShare North East. We can't wait to cheer them on as they take on the world's biggest half marathon and raise vital funds to help us turn surplus food into support for communities across the North East. 💚

💚 Community Spotlight: King's Church, Darlington 🥕

Last week, we visited one of our food members, King’s Church in Darlington, and saw first-hand the incredible difference they're making in their community.

From their welcoming King's Cafe serving affordable food, to their King's Foodbank and furniture project, King’s provides practical support that helps local people through challenging times.

Through our partnership, surplus food is helping to stock shelves, support services, and make sure good food reaches people instead of going to waste. It’s a brilliant example of how working together can strengthen communities and create lasting impact.

🥕 And of course, Garrett the Carrot came along too! Our resident mascot loved exploring King’s and meeting the fantastic team behind their community work.

A huge thank you to everyone at King’s, especially the volunteers, for the warm welcome and for everything you do to support people across Darlington.

Over the past few weeks, Stephen has kindly donated fresh produce from his allotment to our Newcastle warehouse.

Yesterday, he brought along courgettes and plums from his latest harvest. 🥒🍑

Last week, The Nest invited us to join their Community Table as part of two weeks of sustainability events. Together, we hosted a fun-filled surplus food workshop where we made No-Bake Cheesecake, sharing practical tips and ideas on how we can all reduce food waste in our daily lives. 🍰

It was fantastic to connect with local people, spark conversations about sustainability, and show how surplus food can make a positive difference in our communities.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us following the recent break-in at our Middlesbrough warehouse.

A special thank you to Play, Middlesbrough, HR Alchemy, and Holiday Inn Middlesbrough for their generous food donations, and to the many individuals and businesses who have made financial contributions.

July's impact at FareShare North East was huge! 💚

We delivered 132 tonnes of food and rescued another 86 tonnes. That's roughly 12 double decker buses worth of good food sent to charities and community groups across the North East! 🚌

With over 2400 volunteer hours, we distributed the equivalent of 315,790 meals and supported approximately 28,000 people across our region. 🍽

Thank you to our volunteers for powering this work, your support fuels every delivery, and together we can keep getting good-to-eat food to the people who need it most. 💚

Thank you again for everyone's support last week following the break in at our Middlesbrough warehouse. 💚

A lot of you have asked how you can help us going forward. If you would like to get involved, we are always looking for volunteer drivers in both our Middlesbrough and Newcastle warehouses to help us keep good food moving across the North East. 🚚

Meet Alan, one of our volunteer drivers who has been on the road with us who six years! We managed to catch him mid-route for a quick chat.

Back where we belong! 🚛💚

Our vans are out delivering food once again following the break in and power outage earlier this week - getting good food to local charities and community groups at the start of the school holidays across the Tees Valley.

We're feeling incredibly thankful today. The support we've received from volunteers, neighbours, local organisations and colleagues across the food network has been overwhelming, and we're truly touched by every message, gesture and kind word.

Special thanks to Simon, Terry and Sean from Community Grocery for coming down to show their support. It reminds us that when communities come together, amazing things happen.
