💙 Honouring Memories, Supporting Siblings, Bringing Families Together

Our Sibling Support Group returns this November offering a warm and supportive space for families who have spent time on Ward 35 and experienced loss of their baby - to come together, take part in memory-making crafts and spend time with others who understand 🫶

It’s a chance to connect in your own way - whether that’s sharing experiences, chatting alongside the children as they create, or simply taking a moment to be in a space that feels comfortable and understanding. Our group open to families with children of all ages, no matter how long ago your time on the unit was.

Members of the Senior Nurses team, Sarah and Jane, will be there, along with Fiona, Tiny Lives Family Support Officer, offering a friendly, familiar presence throughout the afternoon.

Today, during Baby Loss Awareness Week, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Hall family, who raised an incredible £3,332.50 for Tiny Lives in loving memory of their daughter, Ruby 🦋

Through their fundraising, Ruby's memory will continue to make a difference to babies, families and neonatal services across the North East and North Cumbria. What a wonderful legacy to create in her honour.

We know that behind every fundraiser held in memory of a baby is a story of love that never fades. We are incredibly grateful to the Hall family for choosing to support Tiny Lives and helping us continue to be there for families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Thank you for sharing Ruby's story with us and allowing her memory to touch the lives of so many others.

Today we came together to recognise Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Our stall brought together colleagues from across our clinical teams, including Neonates, Maternity, the Mortuary Team and the Bereavement Office, alongside our wonderful charity partners Tiny Lives Trust & 4Louis ✨
Together, we stand alongside families affected by baby loss, raising awareness, sharing support and reminding everyone that no family has to navigate their grief alone. Every baby matters, every family matters, and every loss deserves to be remembered. 🩵🩷

During Baby Loss Awareness Week, we want to remind families that support comes in many forms, and it's okay to reach out whenever you feel ready.

At Tiny Lives, we offer specialist counselling for neonatal parents, providing a safe space to talk through your experiences, emotions and grief with a trained counsellor who understands the impact a neonatal journey can have. The service is self-referred, meaning that the parent does not need a medical referral to benefit from this additional support. https://www.tinylives.org.uk/2022/04/counselling-for-discharged-ward-35-parents/

We also have dedicated M**s' and Dads' group chats, creating opportunities to connect with other parents who truly understand the challenges of neonatal care and baby loss. There are also a number of wonderful charities dedicated to supporting families who have sadly lost a baby:

💙 Sands supports anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

🙌Today is World Mental Health Day

Looking after our mental health is important every day, but today serves as a reminder to check in with ourselves and those around us.

Having a baby on the neonatal unit can be an incredibly emotional and challenging experience. Families may experience feelings of anxiety, stress, uncertainty, trauma, or isolation, both during their baby's stay and long after leaving the unit. For those who have experienced baby loss, these feelings can be even more overwhelming.

Whatever your journey looks like, it's important to remember that it's okay to ask for help and that support is available.

At Tiny Lives, we know that neonatal experiences can have a lasting impact on emotional wellbeing. That's why we're committed to supporting families through a range of mental health and wellbeing services, including self-referral counselling and peer support. Whether you're currently on the neonatal unit, adjusting to life at home, or navigating life after loss, we're here to help ensure no family faces these challenges alone.

Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with themselves, reach out to a loved one, and remember that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Today marks the beginning of Baby Loss Awareness Week 🕯

It is a tragic fact that not all babies make it home from the neonatal unit. This week is a time for raising awareness of the loss that many families face, remembering the babies who are sadly no longer with us, and sending love and support to all those who have experienced this immeasurable loss.

We know this is a difficult time and we want to remind you to take special care of yourself throughout this week.

Tiny Lives are here if you need us and we'll be highlighting some of the resources we have available, as well as highlighting charities dedicated to supporting families who are going through the loss of a baby/babies. 💛

To all the families carrying the memory of a baby/babies in their hearts, we're thinking of you today and always – you’re not alone.

Expanding support for neonatal families across our region 💙

At Tiny Lives, we know that a neonatal journey doesn't end when a family leaves the neonatal unit. The emotional impact of having a baby in neonatal care can stay with parents and caregivers for months or even years. For some, feelings surface when life begins to settle. For others, they may be triggered by milestones, future pregnancies, or new chapters in family life.

That's why we're incredibly proud to announce that our free counselling service, previously available to families cared for at the RVI, is now being expanded to support all neonatal families across the North East and North Cumbria.

This expansion is a major step forward in our commitment to ensuring every family has access to the support they need, when they need it. Because wherever a family receives neonatal care, their experiences, challenges and emotions are valid and deserve to be heard.

To refer, parents simply need to fill out a form on our website, and a Tiny Lives staff member will be in touch to get the process started.

Jacqui Adams, Projects Officer at Tiny Lives said: “I am thrilled that we are able to expand the reach of our counselling offer. It is great that Tiny Lives is now able to offer this support to parents no matter which neonatal unit in the North East & Cumbria their baby was in."
