Our Housing and Repairs teams have been visiting neighbourhoods to raise awareness about unscrupulous disrepair companies, helping to keep you informed and protected. We’re knocking on doors, offering:

✅ on-the-spot inspections
✅ help with reporting repairs
✅ practical advice on managing damp and mould

Ready to start a career in Facilities?
We have a number of roles across catering, cleaning and caretaking that could be perfect for you, even potentially fitting around your lives!

We have a three-week YHYJ course starting in June around these opportunities, with a guaranteed job interview on completion of the course.

🔔 Doorstep safety – always ask for ID

We’ve been made aware that disrepair claims companies are visiting homes in Newcastle pretending to work for Newcastle City Council. They do NOT work for us.

Our staff will always wear official photo ID.

If someone visits your home claiming to be from the council, you can call 0191 278 7878 to confirm their name and job title before letting them in.

👍 Genuine staff and contractors will always be patient while you check.
🚫 If you’re unsure, don’t let them in.

If you’re approached by a disrepair claims company, please be aware of the risks.

🚨 Be cautious of disrepair claims companies 🚨

We’ve been made aware that some claims management companies are using intimidating tactics to pressure residents into raising disrepair claims — even when tenants don’t want to.

Mr B told us he felt forced into starting a claim. He reported that 4 men from a claims company entered his home, sat down for hours, and did not carry out any inspection of the property. Mr B said he never signed any paperwork authorising a solicitor and is now trying to leave a legal contract he says he did not knowingly enter in to.

If anyone approaches you at home or pressures you to make a claim:

✔️ You do NOT have to let them in
✔️ You do NOT have to sign anything
✔️ You have the right to say no
