Some nightmares keep coming back.

Ealing Studios’ chilling DEAD OF NIGHT comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

Architect Walter Craig arrives at a country house filled with strangers — only to realise he’s seen them all before. As an unsettling sense of déjà vu takes hold, the guests begin sharing their own encounters with the unexplained.

Ghosts, premonitions, haunted mirrors and one seriously sinister ventriloquist’s dummy collide in this brilliantly constructed anthology, building towards an unforgettable finale.

Over 80 years later, DEAD OF NIGHT remains one of the great landmarks of British horror.

What are you wearing to the prom?

This Halloween, the Star & Shadow Class of 2026 is throwing the PROM FROM HELL.

On SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER, we’re transforming the Star & Shadow into a blood-soaked 70s prom night inspired by CARRIE.

From 8PM–1AM, expect PRANCE DJs keeping the dancefloor moving, a vote for Prom King and/or Queen, the ceremonial crowning, a prom photo station, Virgin or Fire Prom Punch, horror films and fan edits from L*z Pop.

And, of course, dress to impress. Think 70s prom, frills, ruffles, blood-soaked glamour or your own nightmarish take on the school dance.

Want the full prom-night experience? Join us from 6PM for Brian De Palma’s CARRIE (1976) on the big screen before heading straight into the party.

She always gets the part.

Takashi Miike’s deeply unsettling AUDITION comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

A lonely widower. A fake casting call. A mysterious young woman who seems almost too perfect.

What starts as a melancholy romance slowly twists into something far darker as Shigeharu Aoyama becomes fascinated by the enigmatic Asami. Best experienced knowing as little as possible, AUDITION is a slow-burning nightmare that builds towards one of horror cinema’s most notorious final acts.

Blood. Lust.

Jane Schoenbrun’s TEENAGE S*X AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

Filmmaker Kris is hired to reboot a legendary slasher franchise and tracks down its original “final girl”, Billy, now living alone at the abandoned camp where the movies were made. But as the two grow closer, the line between horror movie and reality starts to blur.

The director of WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR and I SAW THE TV GLOW takes on FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP territory for a funny, strange and deeply personal spin on the slasher movie.

Some people dig for treasure. Arthur is searching for something he’s lost.

Alice Rohrwacher’s magical LA CHIMERA comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

Josh O’Connor stars as Arthur, a dishevelled English archaeologist drifting through 1980s Italy with an extraordinary talent for finding ancient Etruscan tombs. Joining a gang of mischievous grave robbers, he descends into a hidden world of buried relics, stolen treasures and forgotten histories.

But while everyone else is looking for riches, Arthur is chasing the impossible — a way back to the love he cannot let go.

Funny, romantic and beautifully strange, LA CHIMERA is a dreamlike journey through love, loss and the worlds beneath our feet.

A Masterpiece of Murder and Mystery!

Sidney Gilliat’s brilliantly twisted GREEN FOR DANGER comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

When a patient dies during an operation at a wartime hospital, the wonderfully eccentric Inspector Cockrill is called in. Then another body turns up.

Enter Alastair Sim, stealing every scene as Cockrill in a razor-sharp murder mystery packed with suspicious doctors, deadly secrets, pitch-black humour and wartime paranoia.

Part whodunnit, part black comedy and one of the great British mysteries of the 1940s.

Terrence Malick’s THE NEW WORLD returns to the big screen in its rarely screened extended cut.

This 172-minute version expands Malick’s breathtaking vision of Pocahontas, Captain John Smith and the founding of Jamestown, creating an even richer meditation on love, nature, colonialism and the collision of two worlds.

Shot with extraordinary beauty by Emmanuel Lubezki and accompanied by James Horner’s sweeping score, THE NEW WORLD features remarkable performances from Q’orianka Kilcher, Colin Farrell and Christian Bale. Nearly two decades after its release, its reputation has only grown, with many now considering it among Malick’s greatest achievements.

Opportunities to see the extended cut in a cinema are exceptionally rare. Experience it as it deserves to be seen: on the big screen.

PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME.

Expect explosions. Expect kung fu. Expect SUPA ACTION.

Uganda’s cult phenomenon WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? hits the Star & Shadow this September.

After Captain Alex takes on Kampala’s deadly Tiger Mafia and winds up dead, his kung fu master brother sets out for revenge. From there, all bets are off: gunfights, helicopter battles, martial arts, homemade special effects and the legendary running commentary of Video Joker VJ Emmie.

Made by Nabwana I.G.G. and the Wakaliwood crew on a tiny budget with enormous ambition, WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? is DIY filmmaking at its most joyful, inventive and completely unstoppable.

Discover the filmmaker who helped invent cinema — then was almost written out of its history.

BE NATURAL: THE UNTOLD STORY OF ALICE GUY-BLACHÉ comes to the Star & Shadow this October.

Narrated by Jodie Foster, Pamela B. Green’s acclaimed documentary uncovers the extraordinary life and work of Alice Guy-Blaché, one of cinema’s first and most prolific filmmakers. Beginning her career in the 1890s, Guy-Blaché pioneered narrative filmmaking, experimented with sound, colour and special effects, and directed, wrote or produced hundreds of films across two continents.

Yet for decades, her groundbreaking contribution to cinema was largely forgotten.

Combining rare archival material with an investigation into her remarkable career, BE NATURAL restores Guy-Blaché to her rightful place in film history — not simply as a pioneering woman filmmaker, but as one of the pioneers of cinema itself.

Comic books were never supposed to come to life.

WHO WANTS TO KILL JESSIE? (KDO CHCE ZABÍT JESSII?) crashes onto the Star & Shadow screen this October.

When a scientist develops a serum that can erase bad dreams, things go spectacularly wrong. Comic book heroine Jessie is pulled into the real world — along with two superpowered villains determined to destroy her. Cue impossible inventions, flying fists, exploding speech bubbles and total comic-strip chaos.

A delirious collision of sci-fi, slapstick and the Czech New Wave, Václav Vorlíček’s cult classic tears up the rules of reality with brilliantly inventive live-action comic book visuals.

See it in a stunning new HD restoration from the Czech National Film Archive, on the big screen for one night only.
