*Senior Councillors praise the “fabulous work” of hidden heroes as part of UNISON’s Local Government Champions Day*
In UNISON we celebrated Local Services Champions Day on 5 December. The day gives us the opportunity to recognise the hard work our members do, day in, day out.
Nicky Ramanandi, Deputy Branch Secretary, commented:
“This year as a Branch we celebrated staff working across centres that support some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. We heard testimonies from those accessing services which highlighted how vital they are and how dedicated the staff are that work in them. It was great to be joined by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Karen Kilgour, and the Portfolio holder, Cllr Adam Walker, and as the Deputy Branch officer it was a privilege being able to thank our members for all the work they do.”
Cllr Karen Kilgour , Leader of Newcastle City Council added:
“All our staff do incredible jobs day in, day out, but the support the staff at the five centres provide is often not as visible to Newcastle residents as some of our other services. That's why I was delighted, as a UNISON member myself, to nominate them as UNISON Champions, highlighting the fabulous work they do and the difference they make to so many people's lives. I hope this shows them how much they, and the vital work they do, are valued.”
Cllr Adam Walker, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Prevention said:
“I was delighted to visit our adult services alongside Cllr Kilgour and UNISON representatives, as part of this fantastic initiative, to show our gratitude and appreciation to the hardworking staff in our services. We offer a range of support for adults with complex needs, and this just wouldn't be possible without the dedicated teams we have working throughout the service. UNISON's Local Government Champions is a small way to show our appreciation of this work and let our staff know how valued they are.”
