Connected Voice

Connected Voice Our organisation has been supporting the voluntary sector and communities of Tyneside since 1929. We amplify voices. We champion equality. We inspire change.

At the heart of voluntary and community action in Newcastle and Gateshead, we want to improve the quality of life across the region and work towards a fairer future for all. In our 90-year history we have helped to establish well-known charities that are still thriving today. From individuals to organisations, we believe everyone has a right to be heard. Trusted to listen, understand and advocate,

we strive for excellence. We’re open and honest, we stick by people and give our support to ensure their voices are heard. We believe that diversity should be celebrated and valued, and everyone deserves equality. Working towards a fairer future for all, we won’t stand still. By making an impact on causes big and small, we want to improve the quality of life across the region. Courageous, resourceful and determined, we are not afraid to challenge unfairness and ask difficult questions. Working effectively and accountably to instil confidence. We aim to become stronger and more sustainable to inspire positive and lasting change throughout our community. We support action. We understand from our own experiences the challenges people face. We truly value people and we don’t judge or dictate. Leading independently and side by side with our communities and partners, we share our resources, skills and expertise to enable people to take meaningful action. We connect people. At the heart of voluntary and community action for 90 years, we are immersed and rooted in the North East. We work collectively and inclusively to connect, grow and strengthen our society. We are warm and approachable, and we create opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from and empower one another

One week on from our Haref Joint Event and we are still so thankful to everyone who joined us for this important session - from representatives at Newcastle City Council Council and Gateshead Council, to our wonderful speakers, and all of our Haref Allies and Haref Network members 💜 Read more about the event below ⬇️

Last Tuesday, our annual Haref Joint Event brought together the Haref Network and Allies for a fantastic celebration! Held at Riverside Community Health Project, speakers included:

💬 Helen Atkinson (PPIE Manager Ageing, Sarcopenia & Multimorbidity ASM) who shared a research project she completed along with Rabta Sisters alongside Shama from Rabta Sisters to talk about the research from a participant's point of view.

💬 Kirin San Preet Kaur and Mr Mohammed Suleman, who spoke about their Place of Faith open days when they welcomed the Haref Allies into their respective places of worship, Gurdwara Siri Singh Sabha and Bilal Jamia Masjid.

The day also included an opportunity for tabletop discussions, where we spoke about what the Haref Network and Allies need from each other to strengthen partnerships, and what the Haref team at Connected Voice can do to support this. A delicious lunch was provided along with some Chai, case studies were shared and we shared some Haref highlights from the work we have accomplished this year 👏

We visited the Gardening Volunteers at Disability North and they gave us some great insight into what they love about volunteering and why it's a great thing to do.

Well done for the fab work these volunteers do and thanks for speaking to us! We love the message from volunteer Paul.... "Volunteering is fabulous!" 🎉

From April 2025 to March 2026, our Gateshead Volunteer Centre (GVC) - via the OurGateshead website - processed over 930 enquiries from Gateshead residents for volunteer roles featured on the site! 👏

GVC has now produced a 2026 impact report, showing how they have supported Gateshead residents into volunteering, as well as sharing the stories of three inspirational volunteers; Vernon, Shadan, and Charlie. Through their Support into Volunteering service, they supported 42 residents with additional needs and multiple barriers into volunteer opportunities.

💬 "Volunteering was extremely valuable to me. I learnt a lot of skills... things as simple as understanding the office environment and getting hands-on experience with groups that I want to support, massively built my confidence and employability skills."

As part of Volunteers' Week, our very own Support and Development Officer Josh spoke to us about his experience of volunteering for Connected Voice before securing his role, and how it helped him progress in his chosen field. Read more ⬇️

With Volunteers' Week well under way we wanted to share some messages about the power of volunteering 😊

We are proud to have supported Joanne from P.R.O.P.S in her journey from volunteering to paid employment via the Gateshead Volunteer Centre.

In her words we should all "get into volunteering because it changes your life"

What a morning we have had at our Volunteer Opportunities Fair, held in partnership with Newcastle Cathedral and Volunteer Centre Newcastle to mark Volunteers' Week! 💜🎉 Thank you to every single one of the fantastic organisations that joined us, and all of the visitors who came to learn more about getting into volunteering.
