We had a great time at the charity partner celebration event held for charities supporting the NHS. It was lovely to chat to TLC teddies, Louies and meet Blue Light Babies and the Give a Duck Foundation. There were also some fantastic musicians from the NHS Music Programme we hope can be tagged as their music was beautiful.

We didn't get to speak to everyone but please check out those we did -as they're doing fantastic things

It's Jensen's transplant birthday today - Happy Birthday Jensen!

"Can't quite believe we are 4 years post transplant today! Celebrating like we always do with a giant cookie ! Getting those cells meant a whole new start for Jensen one where we could rid his body of XLP1 in turn stopping any other immune issues and his lymphoma from returning! Today we celebrate how far he's come and his donor for his kindness in donating only what we describe as super cells "

Today around 38 of the Business Product Team are walking from St. James Park to the Stadium of Light in aid of the Bubble Foundation. We went along at 8am to wish them the best of luck before their 20 mile walk which could see them arrive at the Stadium of Light around 5:30!

Thank you for supporting families and their children going through isolation during lengthy stem cell treatments at the Great North Children’s Hospital

Wednesday on the Ward! Seanna is showing us how to be a nurse by caring for the Ward 3 doll, Pam. Seanna shows us how to change dressings, lines and how to remove stickers without it hurting. Pam has had enough medicine so didn’t need to have anymore. This was during Seannas conditioning before transplant. 💙

After more than 25 years on the Children’s BMT/HSCT unit, we are saying goodbye to Professor Mary Slatter as she begins her retirement.

Since joining in 1999, Mary’s calm nature, leadership and pioneering work in children’s stem cell transplant have changed countless lives, helping children have a better chance and improving outcomes.

At her retirement, Mary paid special tribute to the children we sadly couldn’t save, sharing that it is those children who have driven her to keep striving to do things better, but is confident that the team she is leaving behind will continue to improve outcomes.

Mary has been an essential part of our team and will be deeply missed by colleagues, patients and families alike.

If you’d like to leave a message for Mary, please do so in the comments or add one here: https://groupleavingcards.com/share/WTjkCB4jPUb

Just one day left to nominate the Bubble Foundation to win £5,000 for children and families spending months isolated in hospital during stem cell transplants. 💙

Nominating takes around 45 seconds. A few seconds from your bank holiday weekend could help improve a few months of theirs - through toys, games, equipment, family support, & research 🫧

Fundraiser Friday - In May 2025, our brave little boy was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia. After a few months of tests, treatments, and hospital stays, he underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant in August 2025 on Ward 3 at the RVI. Despite everything he faces each day, he continues to show incredible strength, courage, and resilience.

Owing to our immense gratitude for their amazing role in supporting Thomas’s recovery, we now want to help the Bubble Foundation give other brave children with life-threatening immune conditions the best chance of surviving, recovering, and then thriving after their life-saving treatment. We are taking on the three peaks challenge on May the 23rd, if you are able to donate please see link below. Thanks so much! 💙 https://www.justgiving.com/page/thomas-bubblefoundation-threepeaks

Wednesday on the Ward!

Meet Elijah. Since Elijah was born, he had been prone to constant recurring infections. He would often come out in rashes with high temperatures and seemed to suffer far more than expected with every illness. Elijah joined the Ward in February.

You can read Elijah's story here https://www.bubblefoundation.org.uk/about/our-people/elijah
