Many children who have undergone stem cell transplants to restore their immune systems after being diagnosed with rare immune disorders have found their herd at the zoo.

We arranged for some incredibly special families to a day out together. For families who have been through, or are still facing, incredibly difficult times, it was a chance to have time far away from hospital, have fun and know that the people surrounding them have in one way or another, shared very similar, yet unique experiences.

Families had their own private space at the square, with animal handprint art, a zoo ranger scavenger hunt, certificates, a snow leopard mascot, games, fancy dress and an amazing buffet with unlimited refreshments. All funded by the Bubble, Louies and our sponsors 💙

Wednesday on the Ward!

Kerry is one of Ward 3’s healthcare assistants. Alongside being a friendly and familiar face for families throughout the week, Kerry helps keep the ward running smoothly by restocking the everyday essentials needed for quick and efficient care, alongside all the many other things that help Ward 3 run day to day.

She’s part of one big team, one big family, all working together to care for children undergoing stem cell treatments. 💙 Thank you Kerry!

There was a very special visitor on Ward 3 at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary as local actress Eve Ridley stopped by to meet some of the children and families supported by The Bubble Foundation. Some children in purple isolation even watched the new film in the MediCinema.

Ready and raring to go for rare diseases. Will you join us for 10K steps a day this September? Or maybe 5K a day with a teammate is more your thing? However you choose to take part, the aim of the game is simple: to step for those who are isolated going through stem-cell treatments 🫧

We've just over two weeks to go and we already have a few members of Ward 3 joining us again this year - Did you know that Ward 3 collectively walked over 7.8 million steps when they participated last time? That's 3475.96 miles, walking the equivalent of Newcastle... to Dover...in the USA!

But Step-tember is open to absolutely everyone. In previous years, we’ve had entire gyms, offices, families and solo steppers take on the challenge.

So whether you’re stepping on your own, getting your workmates involved by taking the stairs or creating a team with your family, everyone is invited. 10K a day 👟 5K a day with a teammate, or taking on a distance challenge in your wheelchair - it's your challenge, your way.

Today, Kev takes on the final challenge of his incredible triple run for his niece Ellie. 💙

After completing the Newcastle-Gateshead run in May and battling through the Kingston Park Half Marathon in July, Kev lines up on the Quayside today for the final part of his journey.

Three runs and one very special reason. Kev has taken on every mile to raise awareness and support The Bubble Foundation, inspired by Ellie’s stem cell transplant journey and the strength she has shown throughout.
