Guy Smith from Northumberland Freemasons recently completed an unbelievable 400-mile journey from Newcastle to London to raise vital funds for the Northumberland 2031 Festival Appeal in aid of the Freemasons’ Charity.

What started as an ultra-run through heavy rain and thunderstorms took a dramatic turn in Lincolnshire. Diagnosed with a stress fracture in his leg and told by doctors to stop running, Guy refused to quit. Instead, he jumped on a bike provided by local Freemasons and pedaled the rest of the way to London - putting absolutely no weight on his broken leg! 🤯

Despite painful falls and grueling conditions, Guy arrived at Freemasons’ Hall right on his 10-day target, cheered on by supporters and his incredible wife, who was by his side for every single mile.
We are so grateful for Guy's monumental effort to support communities across England and Wales. 💙

Happy Sunday, Brethren! ☕️👋
As we hit the middle of June, things are starting to quiet down around the Province with most of our Lodges taking a break until September. While we will definitely miss our regular monthly meetings and visiting one another over the summer, we couldn't have asked for a better finish to the season after our trip last week!
Last Wednesday, a big group of us travelled down to London for the Quarterly Communication at Grand Lodge. Unfortunately, the journey had a bit of drama. A major train delay left about 15 of our Brethren stuck on the tracks for hours🤦🏻‍♂️Sadly, they missed the actual meeting, but showing true determination, they still made it to London later that afternoon to join the fun💪
For those who did make it inside Grand Lodge, it was an unforgettable day🏛️We were there to watch WBro Guy Smith complete his incredible 400mile Temple Charity Challenge. Seeing him greeted and congratulated by the Pro Grand Master was a special moment that made us all so proud to be Northumberland Masons👏 Guy really showed us what perseverance and supporting a great cause is all about.
After the lunch at the Connaught Rooms, the real reunion happened. We all gathered outside our favourite pub, The George, where our stranded travellers finally caught up with us🍻The weather didn't let us off easy, and the rain started pouring. But we didn't let that stop us -at least 30 of us squashed tightly under a single outdoor tent to stay dry🎪😂
What could have been a miserable afternoon turned out to be the best part of the day. Packed under that canvas, the tent was just full of laughter, great chats, and a reminder of how much we all genuinely enjoy each other's company ❤️At the end of the day, it’s not the grand temples or perfect train timetables that matter-it’s the true brotherly friendship we share. We always bring home the best memories from these trips, and I highly recommend making the effort to come along to the next one in September if you can.
Now that the summer break is here, the World Cup has also just kicked off, and you can already feel the excitement everywhere⚽️🏆
Football actually shares a lot of its DNA with Freemasonry. It reminds me of a great piece of advice about how a team wins a tournament. it’s never just about the star player scoring the goals. It’s about the defenders working hard in the background, the midfielders passing the ball to support their mates when they are under pressure, and the whole squad lifting each other up after a tough match.
In the Lodge, we operate the exact same way. We work together on the level, we look after each other when things go wrong, and we know that we are always stronger as a team than as individuals. Whether on the pitch or in life, true success comes from that shared bond and mutual support🤝
So, even though our Lodges are closed for a couple of months, our Masonic values don't take a holiday. Let’s keep checking in on one another, enjoy the football, and keep that great spirit of The George going through the summer☀️🕶️
Hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing Sunday and a great summer ahead, Brethren🍻🙏

Fraternally,
Sumer SARDAGI

HE HAS DONE IT. !!! 👏👏👏👏
405 Miles. One Incredible Journey.

Today, Guy and Teri Smith arrived in London, bringing an extraordinary week-long challenge to a successful conclusion.

Starting in Northumberland and travelling through the Provinces of Durham, Yorkshire North & East Ridings, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and beyond, Guy has covered an astonishing 405 miles in support of the Alzheimer’s Society. Along the way he has been welcomed by countless Brethren, friends and supporters, visited Masonic centres across England, shared stories, inspired others, and shone a light on a cause that touches so many families.

The final stop before London was the Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire at Fleet House, but it was closed but never mind, Guy marked 376 miles on the board. From there, the last miles carried him to the capital and the finish line of a truly remarkable achievement.

A special mention must also go to Teri Smith, whose support throughout the journey has been unwavering. Challenges like this are never undertaken alone, and her encouragement every mile of the way has been invaluable.

405 miles.
Countless conversations.
Hundreds of supporters.
One important cause.

Congratulations Guy and Teri. Northumberland is incredibly proud of what you have achieved.

TEMPLE RUN 2026 – PENULTIMATE DAY UPDATE 🚴‍♂️

The road to London is almost complete.

After an emotional and inspiring visit with the Bedfordshire Freemasons, where Guy received a tremendous welcome, additional support for the Alzheimer’s Society, and recognition from RW Bro Nicholas Keith Edwards, Provincial Grand Master of Bedfordshire, the journey continues south.

One of the lighter moments of the day came when RW Bro Nicholas Keith Edwards, Provincial Grand Master of Bedfordshire, decided he wasn’t going to let Guy have all the fun. Taking to the saddle himself, he posed alongside Guy outside The Keep, proving that the spirit of Temple Run had clearly rubbed off on Bedfordshire’s senior leadership. Thankfully, his cycling stint was considerably shorter than Guy’s!

Today, Guy has set off towards the Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire, which will be his final provincial stop before reaching his ultimate destination tomorrow — UGLE, Freemasons’ Hall, London.

What began in Northumberland has now carried Guy through province after province, meeting hundreds of Freemasons, making new friends, sharing stories, raising awareness for Alzheimer’s Society and demonstrating the very best of Freemasonry in action.

The support received throughout this journey has been extraordinary. Every province has added its own chapter to the story, and Hertfordshire now prepares to welcome Guy for the final provincial visit before the last push into London.

With more than 348 miles completed and the total continuing to rise, the finish line is now firmly in sight.

Tomorrow, Guy will complete an incredible challenge that has inspired Freemasons and non-Masons alike across the country.

One more province.
One more night.
One final ride to UGLE.

🚴‍♂️ TEMPLE RUN 2026 – DAY 7 EVENING UPDATE 🚴‍♂️

Day 7 has been another memorable day on the road as Guy’s remarkable journey towards UGLE continues.

The day began with challenging weather conditions, heavy rain and difficult riding conditions, but as we have come to expect, Guy simply kept moving forward.

Earlier today, Guy reached a major milestone, passing 300 miles completed since leaving Northumberland. It was a significant moment in the challenge and a reminder of just how far he has travelled in support of the Northumberland 2031 Festival and the Alzheimer’s Society.

From there, it was onwards and southwards as the journey continued through Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

A wonderful welcome awaited Guy and Teri in Leicestershire & Rutland, where local Freemasons turned out in numbers to support the challenge. The warmth, encouragement and generosity shown throughout the day once again demonstrated the very best of Freemasonry in action.

A special thank you goes to Paul Simpson, Steve Greenwood and the Brethren of St Wilfrid’s Lodge in Market Harborough, who not only provided refreshments and a tour of the Lodge but also helped ensure Guy could continue in greater comfort. Thanks also to the team at Halfords in Market Harborough for supporting the charity effort with some much-needed cycling equipment.

As the day progressed, Guy continued onwards and later received another fantastic welcome from the Brethren of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, including Dale Gilbert, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, together with several local Freemasons who took the time to come out and show their support.

The emotional impact of the journey is beginning to show. After seven days on the road, hundreds of miles travelled and countless acts of kindness received, both Guy and Teri reflected this evening on just how much support they have encountered throughout the country. Every Province visited, every handshake offered and every message of encouragement has helped carry them forward.

Since leaving Northumberland, Guy has now travelled through the Provinces of Northumberland, Durham, Yorkshire North and East Ridings, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire. In every Province he has experienced the friendship, encouragement and goodwill that Freemasonry is renowned for, with each adding its own chapter to this remarkable journey towards UGLE.

As Day 7 draws to a close, Guy is once again back on the road, heading towards Bedfordshire and the next stage of his journey. The tracker shows him making steady progress and, by the time he finishes tonight, he is expected to have completed an incredible 343 miles.

300 miles was today’s major milestone. 343 miles will be tonight’s achievement.

With every turn of the pedals, Guy moves closer to his destination at UGLE, carrying with him the good wishes and support of Freemasons from across the country.

🚴‍♂️ TEMPLE RUN 2026 – DAY 7 UPDATE 🚴‍♂️

A little later than planned with today’s update, but Guy Smith has once again made excellent progress as Temple Run 2026 continues towards its final destination.

The day began with heavy rain, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions. At times the weather made route planning challenging and progress slower than hoped, but Guy remained focused and determined throughout.

By early afternoon, Guy had successfully reached the Provincial Grand Lodge of Leicestershire & Rutland, where a fantastic welcome awaited him. A good number of local Freemasons turned out to greet him, offering encouragement and support as he continues this remarkable challenge.

After several demanding days, it was great to see Guy looking stronger, smiling and clearly enjoying the journey once again.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Temple Run has been witnessing the friendship and support shown by Freemasons throughout the country. Every Province has added its own chapter to the story, and Leicestershire & Rutland certainly provided Guy and Teri with a memorable welcome.

The challenge now moves on once again, with Guy heading towards the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire as the miles continue to fall behind him.

With UGLE now firmly on the horizon, the finish line is beginning to feel a little closer.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support, donate, share updates and send messages of encouragement. Your support is helping Guy push forward every single day.

🚴‍♂️ TEMPLE RUN 2026 – END OF DAY UPDATE 🚴‍♂️

What a difference a day can make.

After setting off this morning, Guy has made tremendous progress, covering more than 60 miles and continuing his remarkable journey towards London.

Today brought some memorable moments, including a visit to Nottingham and a stop at the former home of Lord Byron. One inscription seemed particularly fitting for a man undertaking a challenge of this scale:

“A man must travel, and turmoil, or there is no existence.”

Those words could easily have been written about Temple Run 2026.

One thing this challenge has demonstrated is that every day brings something unexpected.

After making excellent progress across Nottinghamshire, Guy arrived at the Provincial Offices hoping to mark another milestone on the journey. Unfortunately, the offices were closed when he arrived.

Undeterred, Guy and Teri did what they have done throughout this challenge – they simply carried on.

After a quick photograph outside, they continued south, keeping the momentum going and focusing on the next destination rather than dwelling on the disappointment.

That attitude has summed up Temple Run from the very beginning. Whatever obstacle has appeared, whether it be weather, injuries, route changes or unexpected setbacks, the response has always been the same:

Keep moving forward.

Along the route, Guy was joined and supported by members of the Free Wheelers Motorcycle Lodge No. 9991, whose es**rt and encouragement have helped keep the momentum going throughout the day.

Guy and Teri also wanted to pass on a special message of thanks to everyone they met in Lincolnshire:

“We’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome. The kindness, generosity and support we’ve received has been overwhelming. We’ve even come away with new Temple Run merchandise, shirts, hats and badges. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way.”

Special thanks also go to Dave Wheeler, Provincial Grand Master of Lincolnshire, and everyone in the Province who rallied around when support was needed most.

As darkness falls, attention now turns towards the Province of Leicestershire & Rutland and the next chapter of this incredible journey.

The destination remains the same.

London awaits.
