Newcastle Carers

Newcastle Carers We are a charity supporting adults, children & young people who care for someone in Newcastle. A safe space for carers to talk, be heard, and supported.

Do you look after someone who needs help and support regularly? If they could not manage without your help, and you are not employed to do this, then you are a carer. Anyone can be a carer, at any time in their life. We support carers of all ages looking after a friend or family member who is ill, disabled, or has mental health problems or addiction linked to drugs or alcohol. At Newcastle Carers,

we know how hard it can be to look after someone, and we’re here to help with information, advice and support. Newcastle Carers Centre is based on Shields Road in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, and we provide information and advice services in the community around Newcastle for carers to get the right information and support to help them in their caring role. Visit our website to find out more about how we support adults, children and young people in Newcastle > www.newcastlecarers.org.uk. We are here to listen and support carers. To talk to someone about your caring role, call our Carers Information Line on 0191 275 5060, 9am‑5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 1pm‑5pm on Tuesdays. We are closed on Bank Holidays. PLEASE NOTE: our page is NOT regularly monitored. If you would like to talk to someone please contact our Carers Information Line on 0191 275 5060 (SMS. 07874 100043), 9am‑5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 1pm‑5pm on Tuesdays. For many unpaid carers, finding time for themselves can be incredibly difficult. That's why opportunities to take a break and enjoy an evening at the theatre can make such a difference.

Thank you to Northern Stage for giving carers registered with us the opportunity to enjoy performances at the theatre.

Carers have told us that attending performances has:

💜 Improved their mental wellbeing
💜 Given them valuable time for themselves
💜 Helped ease financial pressures
💜 Improved their relationships with others

As we celebrate Carers Week, we're sharing some feedback from carers who attended the recent performance of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and the positive difference it made to them.

What a powerful day at the launch of the Commitment to Unpaid Carers yesterday.

It was fantastic to bring together people from across the region who share a commitment to improving support for unpaid carers.

The Commitment focuses on raising awareness and recognition of carers, securing funding that reflects their needs, embedding carers' voices in decision-making, and making support easier to access. With more than 286,000 unpaid carers across the North East and North Cumbria, this collective action has never been more important.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, shared their experiences and pledged their support. Here's to working together to ensure unpaid carers are recognised, valued and supported.

🎉 It’s day three of Carers Week 2026!

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities. So, who is a Carer?

A carer is a person who looks after someone who is ill, has a disability, experiences mental health problems or misuses drugs or alcohol, who could not manage without their support.

This week, a group of young adult carers were invited to Network Rail for a careers session.

During our visit, we learned about different roles at Network Rail, training and progression within the organisation and heard from different teams. We also got a tour of the site and practised CV writing and interview skills. The group had a good time and found the trip really valuable.

Thank you to the wonderful team at Network Rail for the brilliant insight and for allowing us to visit your site!

This trip was made possible thanks to Carers Trust’s Access and Aspirations Fund.
