2344 (Longbenton) Air Cadet Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets squadron based in Longbenton catering to 12-18 year-olds from North Tyneside and Newcastle. Join us at 2344.org.uk

2344 (Longbenton) Squadron meets twice a week and provides young people with the opportunity to go flying and gliding, visit places across the UK and countries around the world, as well as enjoy expeditioning, climbing, obstacle courses, kayaking, biking, shooting, mechanics, engineering, cyber, electronics, fieldcraft and leadership. Young people can gain numerous BTEC qualifications and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. More recently, Team LB won the Lees' Trophy meaning that we are the best squadron in the UK, has been awarded the Freedom of the Borough of North Tyneside and a Queens’s Award for Voluntary Service. We meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 1900 - 2140 at our squadron, which is located on Marquis Close, Benton. Please contact 0191 218 9521 or [email protected] for more information.

Well done to the team from 2344 for representing the unit at Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Wing Competitions Day today, scoring a very respectable 5th place overall!

The team competed in several competitions including Aeromodelling, Drill, Solo Drums and Aircraft Recognition, which they’ve been training for on parade evenings for the last few weeks.

We also presented our latest Cadet of the Month and Staff of the Month awards, recognising those who were voted for by their peers for being worthy of recognition in August.

Yesterday 5 of our cadets were accompanied by CI Treleaven to RAF Topcliffe for their Gliding Induction Flights in the Grob Viking!

With excellent weather for getting up in the air, the cadets were able to take in the excellent views of North Yorkshire as well as being introduced to gliding principles with the fantastic instructors at 645 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

We would also like to thank our fellow Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers from 607 Wearmouth ATC for their assistance with ground based transport due to an unexpected breakdown!

Congratulations to Sgt Wilkinson of 2344 (Longbenton) Air Cadet Squadron and Sgt Rogers of 2510 - West Denton Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets who successfully completed their Staff SNCO Drill Instructor Course held at RAF Woodvale across the weekends of 5th-7th June and 3rd-5th July!
