Amazing final results for City Nature Challenge! Almost twice as many observations as last year, right across the region. Massive thanks to everyone who took part, particularly our co-organisers Durham University and Newcastle University.

Last day of City Nature Challenge and we've got 45% more wildlife records than last year!!!
Let's see how many more we can collect. Simply download an app from iNaturalist.org, go out and take photos of all the wildlife you can spot - plants, trees, insects, fungi, birds - anything will do. And all that data comes to us here at ERIC so it can be used in research, strategic planning and decision-making - so it's genuinely useful for wildlife!

City Nature Challenge, the international nature search, is under way! You can join in from wherever you are just by downloading the iNaturalist.org app and taking photos of whatever wildlife you can see. City Nature Challenge is an annual global event to track the wildlife people can spot over four days, with free events running throughout.

Less than a month to go before this year's City Nature Challenge! We'll be joining in the international nature hunt in collaboration with Newcastle University and Durham University. ERIC NE are delighted to announce that our Small Grants Scheme is open for applications!
There's £3000 available for groups or individuals, for biodiversity and geodiversity voluntary recording work in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and the Tees Valley.
You could get a grant for equipment, training, volunteer expenses or anything else that helps you find out more about the wildlife of our area!
Apply any time until 27th February 2026.
