Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity We are the official charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity is a registered charity which was formed in 1998. Donations make it possible for us to support a number of projects which can make a huge difference to our patients and staff. We aim to bright a little brightness to the world and improve the patient experience for those accessing Northumbria NHS’ services and well as allowing our staff to provide the very best care.

We're still smiling about the incredible atmosphere at Dragon Boat Race 2026, where Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust staff, supporters and local teams took to the Tyne for a day of fun, teamwork and fundraising.

With limited places available for Dragon Boat Race 2027, now's the time to get your team together. If you can fill a boat with 17 paddlers, we'd love to hear from you!

A friendly face, a chat, and maybe a favourite snack 💛

Our Bright Volunteers operate a sweet trolley service for patients and visitors who can't leave the ward, bringing drinks, treats, toiletries and magazines directly to the bedside.

Sometimes it's the smallest gestures that make the biggest difference, helping to add a little comfort and normality during a hospital stay.

Join us for an exciting new podcast mini-series exploring everything you need to know about Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Safe, Fit and Well programme.

In this episode our host Laura is joined by Head of Occupational health and wellbeing, Nicole Contogiorgi, to discuss the strong connection between mental and physical wellbeing, the difference the programme has made to individuals and their families, and why taking that first step to seek support can be so important.

Bright Charity is proud to have funded the programme following a successful pilot, with additional support from a grant provided by NHS Charities Together and NHS England.

We're still smiling as we look back on a fantastic evening spent recognising the dedication, kindness and impact of our incredible volunteers.

A special thank you to DAC Beachcroft for sponsoring the event and helping us celebrate those who give so much to our hospitals and communities.

Sunny hit the ice with Whitley Warriors on Sunday night! 🏒

Alongside our fantastic volunteers, Sunny met supporters, raised funds for patient experience and staff wellbeing, and even made a new friend in Whitley Wolf 🐺

Last Friday, the team at Wansbeck's Oncology Day Unit enjoyed a special visit from Dave, who wanted to personally thank the staff who supported him during his treatment.

Dave and his wife, Denise, recently organised an ABBA-themed social night at Netherton Club in Bedlington, raising an incredible £1,665 for Bright Charity and Cancer Research UK.

Now in remission, Dave shared his heartfelt thanks with the team who helped make his treatment journey a little brighter, including one memorable visit from a staff member in an inflatable Christmas costume!

Dave and Denise, we're so grateful for your generosity and support. Your fantastic fundraising efforts will help us continue going the extra mile for patients and their families.

What a fantastic turnout for Stay for a Cuppa! ☕💛

We were delighted to support the collaboration between Sele Medical Practice, Burn Brae Medical Group and Hexham General Hospital, welcoming patients for a free cuppa after their vaccination.

What a weekend at Kielder! 🏃🏞️

A huge thank you and congratulations to all our incredible Team Bright runners who took on the Kielder Marathon last weekend, tackling the 10K, half marathon and full marathon routes.

From first-time racers to seasoned runners, each and every participant went the extra mile to raise funds that help Bright support patients, staff and communities across Northumbria Healthcare 💛

A special shout-out to Chantelle, who completed the full marathon and somehow described it as a "good day out" if you can believe it! 👏

Even more impressively, Chantelle took on the challenge with a sore, swollen eye after being stung by a bee just days before the event. What an absolute legend! 🐝🏅

Thank you to all our runners, fundraisers and supporters for your dedication, determination and generosity. We couldn't be prouder of what you've achieved.
