Great to be back in Newcastle and taking part in The Northern Alliance meeting. Presenting on North East Sight Matters and our impact in the North East.

We also demonstrated our AR glasses that had quite the affect on the sighted audience 💙

Thank you to Colin Hetherington for his brilliant organisation and interesting speakers.

We have had another great afternoon at Pearey House Centre For Visually Impaired with thanks to Steven & Jonathan.

Our children and young people enjoyed playing ’ Showdown’ (on the only table in the North East) which is a fast paced, highly competitive tabletop sport specifically designed for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Because every player wears a blindfold during a match, it creates a completely level playing field, allowing fully sighted, partially sighted, and blind individuals to compete together directly.

We definitely have some natural talent and it was brilliant to see the grown ups getting involved too!

Great for listening skills, tactics and competition 💙

🎉 Wishing all our GCSE students the very best for results day!

You are incredible. We know that many of you have had to work so much harder than others may realise, showing determination, resilience and courage every step of the way. Whatever today brings, be proud of how far you have come.

As schools prepare for the new term in September, we’re offering our innovative Low Vision Simulator Glasses for hire. These glasses help teachers experience how classroom environments and teaching approaches can affect a sight-impaired student’s learning.

👓 Help create more inclusive classrooms. If you’re a teacher, SENCO, school leader or education professional, get in touch today to hire the Low Vision Simulator Glasses and support better understanding for sight impaired learners. Please share this post to help us reach more schools.

🌟 What another fabulous day our families have had! This time, we visited the beautiful Ford & Etal Estate in North Northumberland for a day full of adventure, exploration and special memories.

We began at Heatherslaw Light Railway, enjoying a wonderful journey alongside the River Till to the picturesque village of Etal, where families had time to explore the castle and village.

After returning by train to Heatherslaw Mill, families enjoyed visiting the craft shop, mill, shops and café before heading on to the lovely village of Ford.

At Ford, with its quaint cottages, Lady Waterford Hall and the castle, PGL provided a fantastic action-packed afternoon of activities including disc golf, trapeze, problem-solving tasks and the challenge course.

A huge thank you to the PGL team for making sure the activities were accessible and inclusive for all children, especially our sight impaired children and those with additional needs. The care, encouragement and adaptations provided meant everyone could take part, build confidence and enjoy the experience in a way that worked for them.

We saw some incredible reactions from the children (and grown ups), from overcoming fears, to working together, supporting one another and trying something new. We even had a hoist enabling one of our newest members, who uses a wheelchair, to go high up in the air so that everyone was truly included.

We would like to say a very special thank you to Heatherslaw Light Railway, Lord Joicey and PGL for their superb support in helping create such an incredible day and lasting memories for all who attended. 💙

Today we are looking forward to our day out at Ford & Etal and the sun is shining! ☀️

We still have spaces for anyone wishing to try' Showdown' this Friday.

Showdown is a fast-paced, competitive tabletop sport designed specifically for blind and visually impaired players. Governed globally by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and supported locally by organizations like British Blind Sport, it functions like a cross between air hockey and table tennis, relying entirely on sound and touch. Sighted players can play wearing a Blindfold.
